WhatsUp Gold Features

Important: Dynamic group membership in previous versions of WhatsUp Gold was determined by device role. When upgrading to WhatsUp Gold 2017, device types are converted for device roles. It may be necessary to rescan your devices to ensure they are assigned the desired device roles for dynamic group membership.

Implemented the following improvements to enhance application performance, response, reliability, and overall user experience:
- The discovery workflow has been modified to significantly decrease scan time.
- Upon logging in, the user is now directed to the last view seen before logging out rather than the map view.
- Zoom levels on map views now persist when switching between Discovered Network and My Network as well as enabling overlays.
- Device Properties and Monitor Setup interfaces now open as individual dialogs that can be expanded to a full page view. Additionally, all sections display as collapsed by default to improve the workflow.
- Credentials and Monitors libraries interfaces now open as nested dialogs that can be expanded to a full page view.
- Individual dashboard reports can be expanded to a full page view directly from their dashboard view position and improve the workflow.
- Dashboard views have been modified so their configuration per user will persist.
- Reports containing interface data have been modified to allow specific interfaces can be defined and saved per report. Users can also select specific aspects for disk, custom monitors, and CPU using the settings for the applicable report.
- Dashboard report placement and management can now be handled using both drag-and-drop as well as settings menu options.
To improve the workflow for first time WhatsUp Gold users, an informational message appears upon first login instructing the user to start a discovery scan. This message disappears from the Discovered Network map as soon as a device is scanned or added to WhatsUp Gold.
To improve the workflow for first time WhatsUp Gold users, the following informational message appears informing the user that devices have been discovered but are not yet being monitored. This message disappears from the My Network map as soon as WhatsUp Gold begins monitoring a device.
Added the ability to view custom maps within a dedicated dashboard report.
Implemented the ability to save dedicated URLs for maps and dashboard views to allow the user to access a specific view immediately as well as create rotating wallboards when using WhatsUp Gold in concert with specific Chrome or Firefox extensions. Please see Revolving Wallboard with WhatsUp Gold 2017 for additional information and instructions on how to configure rotating wallboards.
Added Set as Dependency Root option to the device management actions menu which designates the selected device as a root device meaning anything connected to it should have an up dependency to that device and any device connected to those devices should have an up dependency to them. This capability prevents alert storms should an upstream device fail.
Added Auto-set Dependency Root option to the device group management actions menu which locates all root devices within the selected group and automatically sets any dependencies.
Enhanced custom map annotations by adding the ability to adjust object layers, lock object positions, and edit object styles.
Improved the workflow for adding images; when added, an image can be resized.
Added descriptive content to the discovery wizard dialog to assist the user with differentiating between seed address and IP address scans.
Implemented the ability to filter the map view by brand.
Combined device management menu items applicable to refresh to a single Refresh Device Details action and added a Rescan Device action.
Modified the color indicator for up status from blue to green.
Improved the device status indicator by adding an annotation to represent a down active monitor.
Added performance monitor hyperlinks and last polled statistics to the device information card.
Implemented the ability to search the credentials and monitors libraries from within the palettes.
Implemented the ability to manually create and remove connectivity links between devices on the custom map layout. Please note, both devices must be selected to either add or remove a link.
Implemented the Device Thresholds dashboard report.
Implemented the Device Information and Status dashboard report.
Implemented the Database Table Usage dashboard report.
