Are you managing more devices than your license allows?
WhatsUp Gold v12.3 or higher will not manage more devices than your license agreement allows. If you are currently managing more devices than your license allows, upgrading to WhatsUp Gold v12.3 or higher will cause the polling engine to stop running until you take additional action. Are you affected?
To figure out if this change affects you, you need to know two things:
- How many devices your license allows you to manage
- How many devices you are currently managing
To find out how many devices your license allows you to manage:
- Log in to the MyIpswitch customer portal. Locate the WhatsUp Gold license, which includes the number of devices the license can manage. [ Show me ]
- If you cannot log in to MyIpswitch, contact Customer Service.
To find out how many devices you are currently managing:
- Launch the WhatsUp Gold web interface and view the summary counts workspace report. [ Show me ]
Managing fewer devices than license allows?
If the number of devices you are currently managing is less than the number your license allows, then this change does not affect you and you can upgrade without any additional action required.

Managing more devices than license allows?
If the number of devices you are currently managing is greater than the number your license allows, you must take additional action so that WhatsUp Gold v12.3 or higher can continue to manage your network after upgrading.

Option 1
Upgrade your license to allow managing more devices. By upgrading your license to the correct tier, you can manage all of the devices that you currently manage and plan for enough capacity for managing your network as it grows.

Option 2
Reduce the number of devices you're managing. If you want to keep your current license, decide which devices are not essential to manage with WhatsUp Gold. Remove devices to bring the total number of devices you are managing to below the amount allowed by your license, and WhatsUp Gold v12.3 or higher can resume polling your network.
