Description
WorkgroupShare incorporates the capability to share Outlook data, such as calendars, tasks, contacts, distribution lists, notes, and email among ICS Standard and IMail Premium users. In addition to sharing users’ personal folders with other users, WorkgroupShare lets you define public shared folders such as shared contact lists and holiday calendars with other users.
Release Notes
General
- Items synchronized with a custom form no longer lose the form definition after being updated.
- User login details in the Administrator have been moved from the Details tab to a Login tab.
- Group member details in the Administrator have been moved from the Details tab to a Members tab.
- The Settings property pages in the Administrator have been updated to include all settings.
- The WorkgroupShare service now shuts down promptly when using a SQL Server database.
- When the client is unable to contact a server it will now try alternative servers before prompting the user. The options will be to 1) Disable Automatic Synchronization (until Outlook restart) 2) Continue to try connecting silently 3) Connect to a different server.
- WorkgroupShare works with Windows Vista RC2, but fails with earlier versions. The error 'An address incompatible with the requested protocol was used' is reported when starting the WorkgroupShare service.
- Installing WorkgroupShare on Windows Vista now gives a thirty day free trial.
- Event logging has been added to the WorkgroupShare client log files. These indicate actions taking place in Outlook, such as adding items to, and deleting items from, a folder.
- WorkgroupShare has been updated to use the Windows XP style controls in the Administrator UI.
- The end of setup detects whether or not the server has been installed on a domain and offers a taylored description of how to set up the clients, to suit.
- An occasional Outlook crash introduced in the beta release has been fixed.
- WorkgroupShare no longer synchronizes reminders to other clients, preventing the reminder from popping up in Outlook 2007 for all other users that have access to the appointment.
- When an attempt to update an item on the server fails, an error is passed back to the client to indicate that the update was unsuccessful and must be repeated.
- An occasional problem adding emails to a SQL server database has been overcome by writing larger amounts of data more reliably. The error was 'ERROR Update item failed - ODBC error (2): Operand type clash: text is incompatible with image'
- WorkgroupShare help files have been updated to use the new HTML Help file format.
Setup
- Setup now correctly configures the DSN when SQL server authentication is required.
Security
• WorkgroupShare add-in in Outlook 2002 SP3 no longer pops up a message box every time the IM address is read/written for a user.
• When the access level to a folder changes for a user, it is now picked up immediately by the server so the add-in gets the correct access level.
• Version 2 now encrypts the user password associated with a WorkgroupShare user account.
General Setup
• Client setup now gives the user a chance to change the server address and/or port when the server cannot be contacted if client setup is run from the ClientSetup folder.
• Client setup now backs up all .PST files that are used by Outlook.
Client Setup
• Client setup now sets up the Outlook free/busy server if it is not already setup. Installing/Upgrading
• The WorkgroupShare installation is included as either part of the ICS installation or the IMail Premium installation. Refer to the ICS release notes or the IMail release notes for more information.
• If you are upgrading from ICS 2006 Standard to IMail 2006.2 Premium or if you did not install WorkgroupShare when you originally installed ICS 2006 Premium, a backup of the WorkgroupShare.mdb file (located in C:\Program Files\Ipswitch\Collaboration Suite) is saved and renamed WorkgroupShare.old.mdb in C:\Program Files\Ipswitch\Collaboration Suite\WorkgroupShare\Data. To save your existing contacts used in Ipswitch Web Messaging or Microsoft Outlook, after you install WorkgroupShare, import the contact data saved in the C:\Program Files\Ipswitch\Collaboration Suite\WorkgroupShare\Data\WorkgroupShare.old.mdb file into the WorkgroupShare.mdb file located in C:\Program Files\Ipswitch\Collaboration Suite\WorkgroupShare\Data.
Uninstalling
WorkgroupShare is included as part of the ICS Standard or IMail Premium installation. You must remove ICS or IMail Premium to remove WorkgroupShare.
1. Open the Add/Remove Programs applet in the Windows Control Panel.
2. Select the ICS or IMail edition you want to uninstall.
Note: Removing IMail Server using the Add/Remove Programs applet
does not delete the IMail directory or the subdirectories and
files it contains. To remove these, you must delete them
manually.
