Known Issue in MOVEit Transfer 2017

(no ID)

Server Update

In MOVEit Transfer 2017, extensive changes were made in the database to support Unicode. The maximum sizes of some database fields were reduced.

Before you update to MOVEit Transfer 2017, you must run the utility MIDMZCheckDatabase_9000.exe to see if your database is affected. The utility is included in the download of the installer.

This utility scans the database and reports issues.

  • You can have the utility automatically fix all issues, or display the details of each issue separately so that you can fix them one at a time.
  • Or, you can use the utility to export the issues so that you can correct them offline. This option is useful in situations such as when a folder path needs to be reduced, and the administrator wants to deal with the field changes offline.

You must correct the field size issues before proceeding with the update.

For more information, see the KB article Important Changes to MOVEit Transfer 2017 (DMZ) Database Field Sizes, Article ID: 000018731.

Wizard

On some Windows computers, the Java Wizard might not be able to display characters for the Tamil language. This is caused by a limitation of Java.

Workaround: Use this workaround for displaying Tamil characters.

Unicode support

Database

MySQL does not distinguish between alphabetic characters that contain and do not contain diacritical marks, such umlauts (ü / u, ä / a, ö / o), virguilla (ñ / n), cedilla (ç / c), and unique letters such as ß.

This issue affects:

  • User names, folder names, and file names. For example, if a user Benützer exists, attempting to create user named Benutzer generates a "user already exists" error.
  • Searches. The search matches on elements with and without marks, by replacing characters with marks with their basic counterparts. For example, searches for ö, ñ, ç, and ß yield results with o, n, c, and s.

Workaround: If you need to distinguish between these characters, use the Microsoft SQL database.

Utilities

If you have logs that include data from before and after a software update, tamper check verification shows false positive tamper errors when verifying the logs

To prevent this situation, do the following when updating MOVEit DMZ software to MOVEit Transfer 2017:

  1. Before you update, manually start the MOVEit DMZ Log Tamper Check program from the Start menu.
  2. Immediately after you update:
    1. Sign on as System Administrator. Click SETTINGS.
    2. In the System section, Tamper Detection row, click Reset All Orgs.
    3. Click Reset Tamper Detection Data.
