Overview

A group provides a convenient way to manage an track user access to resources. For example, folder permissions, package access, and address book entries can be applied to groups rather than individual users.

Users who are normal group members have all permissions held by that group. GroupAdmins are users promoted by an Admin () to assist with the management of the group (such as adding/deleting users). Limited Members typically have only a few of the group attributes. The complete list of group members can be viewed from a Group Profile or by using the "In Group" drop-down filter on the main USERS page.

As a GroupAdmin, it is best practice to never clone an existing or legacy user with the intention of using that user as a template for other users. Instead of cloning, create a fresh user and assign group permissions to determine the range and scope of the user's access.

Cloning a user () performs a deep copy of a user. Cloning a user with policy overrides applied (such as explicit folder permissions) means the new (cloned) version of the user will also possess these overrides.

Display profiles and some default user settings can be applied to groups. A custom announcement that normally appears on members' Home pages and a custom logo that will appear on all members' pages can also be applied to groups. If the "External Authentication" feature has been enabled, MOVEit Transfer can automatically replicate some or all of its user group membership information from an associated LDAP server.

• To view groups:

  In the navigation pane, click GROUPS. The Groups page opens, showing a list of existing groups.

• To add a group:

  In the navigation pane, click GROUPS. The Groups page opens. Click Add Group. The Add a New Group... page opens. Provide a name and optional description, and click Add Group.

• To add members to a group:
  1. Click GROUPS and click the group-name. The Group Profile (group-name) page opens.
  2. In the Add or Remove Members section, Select Users box, click the users to add to the group. Use Ctrl+click to select multiple users. Click Add Member(s).

• To clone a group:
  1. Click GROUPS. For the group that you want to clone, click Clone , The Clone Group original-group-name page opens.
  2. Specify a name and optional description for the new group, and click Add Group. The new group has the same group members and other characteristics of the original group. You can edit the profile of the new group. Doing so has no effect on the original group.
• To filter the list of groups

  At the bottom of the Groups page, in the Filter Groups section:

  • Pick a selection. Click to display
    • All Groups
    • Empty Groups. Groups that have no members.
    • Groups w/o Perms. Groups that have no (groups without any folder permissions
  • Pick a Letter. Forwards to the page in which the first group starting with the letter appears.

Note: Users can set the maximum number of items that appear on the page, in MY ACCOUNT > Edit Your Display Settings... > User/Group Entries Per Page.
