Internet Explorer - ActiveX Wizard

Important! The ActiveX Wizard works with Internet Explorer, only. Controls to enable its use are provided for purposes of backward compatibility with legacy MOVEit Transfer users. It is best practice to have your users rely on the built-in upload/download manager ("Javascript Wizard") instead.

ActiveX Wizard Option

Description

Custom Name

Provide a custom name for your org's ActiveX Wizard to reflect your upload and download mission.

Custom Logo

Provide a logo/branding to associate with your ActiveX Wizard.

Default Upload Zip File Name

When you select files and choose to upload them as a single zipped (compressed) file, you can use this option to give your zipped file a custom naming convention using macros such as [username] or [fullname] and more.

Wizard Installation Reminder

This section determines whether or not users will be prompted to install the Upload/Download Wizard if they do not already have it installed. The setting value is applied when creating new users, and can be applied to existing users as well. You can override it at the user level by per-user values.

TIP Use the more convenient, full-featured Javascript Wizard. It has no dependencies on Internet Explorer like the ActiveX Wizard. For this reason, you might want to leave the ActiveX Wizard Reminder turned off. Existing users already using the ActiveX Wizard will not be affected, and new users will exercise the built-in upload/download feature ("Javascript Wizard").

When the Prompt to install Upload/Download Wizard setting is set to Yes, users who do not have the wizard installed will by default be prompted about it, and asked if they want to install it, after they sign on. When set to No, users will by default not be prompted about the wizard, though they will still be able to use the wizard if it is already installed. Users will still be able to install the wizard from their My Account page.

Windows administrators may pre-install the Upload/Download Wizard on selected Windows platforms by downloading the appropriate Upload/Download Wizard MSI package from the MOVEit customer portal.

ActiveX Wizard Technical Hints

Using an Alternate Upload Setting for Chunked Header Errors (Advanced Setting)

Some firewalls or proxy servers block the "Transfer-Encoding: chunked" header used by the Upload Wizard. When the Upload Wizard detects this situation, it reverts to a different upload protocol. (This alternative protocol is not used by default, because it does not allow compression or the creation of .zip files.) If you have software or network devices that block "Transfer-Encoding: chunked" headers, and find that the MOVEit Wizard is not able to detect this, you can force the Upload Wizard to use the alternative protocol by creating a value in the registry of the computer that is running Internet Explorer.

Run RegEdit and navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Standard Networks\MOVEitUploadWizard. (If this key does not exist, create it.) Then create a DWORD value named ForceNonLumpHashMode and give it a value of 1. This will force the Upload Wizard to use the less efficient but more widely-accepted alternative upload protocol.

This must be done on every end-user's computer. Setting this value on the MOVEit server itself has no effect unless you actually use Internet Explorer on the server.

Organizations that wish to predistribute the ActiveX version of the Wizard or want to allow the control to be "preinstalled" for all users by an Administrator account through a "normal" installation package can obtain a simple Upload/Download Wizard "ActiveX" installation package from the MOVEit support site.
