Send Packages

Sending a package is like sending an email with attachments.

The Package Actions panel can appear on your Home page, the Packages page, or both:

  1. On your HOME page, or on the PACKAGES page, click Send Package.

    The New Package page opens.

  2. Fill in the fields and make selections. See figure and table below for descriptions. Click Send.

MOVEit Transfer sends the package and saves a copy to your Sent mailbox.

TIP Features and fields in the New Package dialog can vary based on your organization policy and your level of permissions. Your MOVEit Transfer administrator and site policy can determine options available when you send a package.

Description

1.

To:

Include an email address for each recipient. Use a comma (",") to create a list if you have more than one group's or user's email address.

If your organization has the Address Book feature configured, click the To, CC, or BCC fields and select an address from the dropdown list.

From:

(not shown in this figure)

The From field is available if you have access to another user's mailbox (shared mailboxes is enabled). Click to select a user to be listed as the package sender.
Note: Your signature is included in the note by default, even if you select a different user as the package sender.

If the From field is not available, the package lists you as the sender.

2.

Show CC and BCC adds these fields to the page. Recipients cannot view BCC recipients.

3.

Subject

Description of the package. Appears in the new package notification email, and identifies the package in package lists.

4.

Classification

A business impact or information security marking you select for this package.

TIP Most information security policies that incorporate classification markings for media, documents, and messages require that the classification of a package reflect the highest classification found in the contents of the package. For example, if you or the custodian of a package attach what is considered a Confidential document to an otherwise unclassified package, by definition of this policy, you should re-tagged the package as Confidential before you send it.

5.

Padlock icon

  • Locked. Note content appears in the package, but not in the new package notification email
  • Unlocked. Note text is included in the new package notification email

    Note (message body)

This option is set by the administrator for the organization. (SETTINGS > Ad Hoc Transfer > Content > Sending Files > Secure the Note). (Availability of this field depends on your organization's policy settings.)

    Rich Text Editor

An HTML rich text editor is available to users of Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Mozilla browsers with JavaScript enabled. You can change the font, size, alignment, and color of the note content, format lists, and include links.

TIP If the rich text editor is not available, the Note field is a standard text box. You can enter standard HTML tags. The text box shows plain text; the received message is formatted.

    DMZ90_icon_ClearFormatting Clear Formatting

Removes HTML formatting to facilitate copying content from different sources. This link is available only if the Rich Text Editor is available.

6.

Files

List the number of attached files that you added. The way you add files depends on whether you have enabled a wizard.

Note: If no wizard is enabled, click Choose File or Browse, select a file, and click Upload. For more information, see Upload a File Without the Wizard.

Launch the Upload Wizard

This link is available if you have enabled a wizard. Click to open the wizard. In the wizard, drag and drop files, or click Add File to locate and select files.

For details about the available wizards, and how to enable and use them, see

  • Configure the Upload/Download Wizard
  • Upload Files Using the Wizard.

7.

Options

The options that appear depend on how your organization is configured. If an option has been locked by the administrator, the value appears, but you cannot change it.

  • Secure the note. Enables the note text to be sent securely, only through MOVEit. If unchecked, the note is included in the emailed notification.
  • Delivery Receipt(s). You (the sender) receive a notification email when each recipient of your package reads the package for the first time, and when a recipient downloads a file. If you selected another user in the From: field, both you and the other user receive a delivery receipt.
  • Prevent "Reply All" - Prevents the recipients from replying to all recipients of the package. This can be useful for administrators who want to send information to a large group, but do not group members to message each other.
  • Prevent all replies - Recipients cannot reply to the package.
  • Limit downloads to n per file - Maximum number (n) of times that recipients can download a transferred file. The maximum that you can specify is also shown.
  • Package will expire after n days - Number (n) of days that the package is available to recipients.

8.

Save as Template

Saves the package as a template in the Templates mailbox. You can open a template, edit it, and send it. The original template remains unaltered in the Templates mailbox.

Sending a Package to Unregistered Recipients

If you sent a package to an unregistered recipient (that is, recipients that are not MOVEit users) you might be prompted to provide a password. The Provide Password page opens.

Important: For this option, you must provide the password to the unregistered recipients by sending it as a separate email, phone call, FAX, and so on in accordance with your organization's security policy.

Recipient Reconciliation (and Package User Creation)

When the Send button is clicked, MOVEit uses the following rules to reconcile each email address as a package recipient:
