Adding and editing a Log to Text File Action
The Log to Text action logs custom messages to specified text files.
To add a new Log to Text File action:
- From the WhatsUp Gold web interface, go to . The Action Library appears.
- Click . The Select Action Type dialog appears.
- Select , then click . The New Log To Text File Action dialog appears.
- Enter or select the appropriate information:
- . Enter a unique name for the action. This name displays in the Action Library.
- . (Optional) Enter additional information about the action. This description displays next to the action in the Action Library.
- . Enter the full path to the location where the log file will be written.
- . Select to have log messages appended to the Log file. Select to have log messages overwrite existing log messages.
- . Enter the message that will be written to the log file. This message supports percent variables. The default log message is:
%Device.ActiveMonitorDownNames is %Device.State on %Device.Type: %Device.HostName (%Device.Address).

- Select the action you would like to edit, then click .
- Enter or select the appropriate information:
- . Enter a unique name for the action. This name displays in the Action Library.
- . (Optional) Enter additional information about the action. This description displays next to the action in the Action Library.
- . Enter the full path to the location where the log file will be written.
- . Select to have log messages appended to the Log file. Select to have log messages overwrite existing log messages.
- . Enter the message that will be written to the log file. This message supports percent variables. The default log message is:
