APM Overview

Application Performance Monitor for WhatsUp Gold monitors applications across multiple devices, servers, and systems, providing performance statistics and overall application health, while alerting on performance degradation and potential problems before they result in service outages. APM helps IT organizations measure and guarantee Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and assists in pinpointing application performance bottlenecks and points of failure. For more information, see Getting Started with APM and the Application Performance Monitoring for WhatsUp Gold Getting Started Guide.

Note: This feature is available with WhatsUp Gold Premium Edition only. To update your license, visit the WhatsUp Customer Portal.

Each application monitored by APM is comprised of a collection of individual components as defined in the application profile. This application profile is then applied to a WhatsUp Gold device, creating an application instance.

The following are some examples of application types that the APM plug-in supports:

  • Cisco Unified Communications Manager
  • Microsoft Server 2003 & 2008
  • IIS 7.X
  • Microsoft Active Directory/Domain Controller
  • Ipswitch WhatsUp Gold
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 & 2012
  • Ipswitch iMail
  • Microsoft SQL 2005
  • Microsoft Exchange 2007 & 2010
  • Microsoft SharePoint 2010
  • Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008-2012
  • Oracle 10G+

APM is licensed on a per-component basis, meaning that each component monitored uses one license. A license is also required for a discrete application, which is an application that acts as a component of another application.
