Domain Name Service (DNS) Monitor
How to get here
- Go to the Active Monitor Library:
- From the WhatsUp Gold web interface, go to . The Monitor Library appears.
- Click the tab. The Active Monitor Library appears.
- or -
- From the WhatsUp Gold console, go to . The Active Monitor Library appears.
- In the Active Monitor Library, do one of the following:
- Click , then select .
- or -
- Select an existing DNS Monitor, then click . The monitor properties page appears.
The Domain Name Service (DNS) monitor is a simple service monitor that checks for the DNS on port 53. If no DNS service responds on this port, then the service is considered down.
Enter or select the appropriate information:
- . Enter a unique name for the monitor. This name displays in the Active Monitor Library.
- . (Optional) Enter additional information about the monitor. This description displays next to the monitor name in the Active Monitor Library.
- . Enter the length of time WhatsUp Gold attempts to connect to the selected device. When the time you enter is exceeded without connecting, a timeout occurs and WhatsUp Gold stops trying to connect to the SMTP server. This is considered a failed connection.
- .Select this option to have the monitor appear in the Active Monitor list on the Device Properties dialog. WhatsUp Gold will add the monitor type to the device during a rescan, which is launched using on the Device Properties dialog, if the protocol or service is active on the device.
