Discovery Role Editor - General tab

How to get here

Use this dialog to enter descriptive information about the device role you want to create.

Note: The General tab information is not editable if the role is a WhatsUp Gold pre-configured role.

• Icon. Click to select the icon to use for the device role icon. Use an icon that best represents the device's role.
• Name. Enter a device role name.
• Description. Enter a device role description.
• Device type naming scheme. Enter the a device name for the role you create or use percent variables that define how the device type name and information will be generated during the discovery process. You can right-click this box for a list of percent variables.
  For example: %Discovery.Device.Brand %Discovery.Device.Model %Discovery.Device.OS %Discovery.Device.PrimaryRole, extracts the following information about the device:
  • Brand
  • Model
  • Operating System
  • Role, for example, Email server
