) that returns the display names of new items that triggered a notification and the display names of existing items in a notification. Fixed an issue that caused an upgrade to overwrite previous install logs.
The installer now displays a warning dialog during the upgrade wizard that advises users that the database upgrade may take some time, and thought the user interface may seem to be in a "hung" state, it is working and must be allowed to complete.
Note: The following two fixes are applied to WhatsUp Gold during the upgrade process through several additional upgrade commands. Because of this, the fixes are only applied to your version of WhatsUp Gold if you are upgrading from 14.2.x or prior to WhatsUp Gold 14.3.1. If you have already successfully installed 14.3 and upgrade to 14.3.1, these fixes are not applied. Additionally, as part of the fix, in each instance, WhatsUp Gold deletes any preferences you have saved for that part of the application. For example, to fix the Jscript error displayed in the Top Applications workspace report after an upgrade to 14.3, WhatsUp Gold deletes any preferences you have stored for the workspace report when you upgrade to 14.3.1. As a result, the next time you view the Top Applications workspace report, its default display settings are restored. You can restore the preferences associated with a fix by following the instructions listed in the KB article to which it is linked.
Fixed an issue that caused an SSH credentials error after an upgrade from 14.2.x to 14.3, for discovery in the web interface, if previous SSH settings existed. To restore the preferences deleted as a result of this fix, see the following KB article.
Fixed an issue that caused the Top Applications workspace report to throw a Jscript error after an upgrade from 14.2.x to 14.3 by integrating a delete command into the 14.3 upgrade script. To restore the preferences deleted as a result of this fix, see the following KB article.
Fixed an issue that caused a Jscript error when switching to or from Business Hours reporting.
Fixed an issue that caused Flow sources to stop receiving data and a resulting logged exception (an item with the same key has already been added) after enabling CBQoS.
Fixed an issue that caused some virtual devices that were associated with VMWare Hosts to not appear in the Device Properties dialog in the web interface.
Fixed an issue that prevented an upgrade from 14.x to 14.x.x to delete the 14.x program group from the Start menu.
Resolved a problem that prevented an upgrade of WhatsUp Gold using a Microsoft SQL Server 2008 instance from installing SQL client tools or SQL connectivity components.
Fixed an issue that caused the Alert Center to log a SQL syntax error at every poll of a threshold after a Flow Monitor group, that was used as an exclusion in the threshold, is deleted from Flow Monitor.
Fixed an issue that caused an uppercase "s" in LDAP credential Authorize DN field to crash the web service. The UI was redesigned to help a user save the correct values.
Resolved a problem that caused a hosts file import discovery to not use the hostname provided in the selected text file.
Fixed an issue that prevented SSH credentials from populating in the available credentials list, when configuring a discovery scan and the subsequent failed tests, of any SSH Monitors configured for a device role, as well as failure of discovery to add SSH monitors to discovered devices.
Fixed an issue that caused an unhandled exception error in the Device Viewer dialog when a user attempted to display Device Viewer data for a WhatsUp Gold device that had not been exported from WhatsConnected, but has a WhatsConnected right-click menu and has more than 16k of Layer 2 data.
Resolved a problem that required that Top Sender Groups to be edited in order for them to display properly in the Interface Details Report.
The NFArchive database was previously created with the recovery model set to FULL and had the potential to fill a user's harddrive if they didn't make periodic backups; it has been changed to use the SIMPLE recovery method to alleviate this problem and to be consistent with the NetFlow database.
Resolved a problem that caused date links in the Tail of State Change Log workspace report to open full reports with a custom date range for today from 00:00:00 to 00:00:00 (0 minute time frame).
Fixed a problem that was causing several reports to throw an APS error.
Implemented a new SQL clause for Business Hours to stop several instances of too many data points displaying in the Ping Response Time report's graph due to lack of order in the previously provided SQL clause for the Business Hour date range.
If an LDAP user generates a request for a report export to PDF from a local machine, WhatsUp Gold authenticates without a password so that the report can successfully be exported to PDF.
Stopped an instance of haulted data collection for interfaces not supporting errors and discards (EAD) by polling OIDs related to EAD separately when SNMPv1 credentials are used.
Active Script Performance Monitor - fixed an issue that caused GetReferenceVariable
to return an Invalid Security Model in Security Parameters error.
Upgraded to OpenSSL 0.9.8n binaries to further secure network data.
Implemented new performance counters so that Ipswitch engine and web server counters are available on Windows Server 2008 64-bit OS.

Flow Collector Service port number
The default port assigned to the Flow Collector Service is 9999. During installation, Flow Monitor automatically creates an exception for this port on the Windows Firewall if the firewall is enabled. If you change the default port number from the default setting, you need to change the exception port on the Windows firewall to the new port number.
sFlow Configuration
WhatsUp Flow Monitor now supports sFlow versions 2 and 5. For more information about configuring sFlow, see sFlow Configuration for Flow Monitor.
The following overview steps are required to implement the WhatsUp Gold VoIP Monitor, refer to Using WhatsUp Gold VoIP Monitor for detailed instructions:
To uninstall Ipswitch WhatsUp Gold v14.3.1 with Windows XP or 2003:
To uninstall Ipswitch WhatsUp Gold v14.3.1 with Windows Vista or Server 2008:

Note: When this option is selected, all WhatsUp Gold, WhatsUp Flow Monitor data, and WhatsConnected configuration data is saved.
Note: When this option is selected, WhatsUp Gold also deletes all remote database data associated with this installation of WhatsUp Gold. Also, when this option is selected, all WhatsUp Gold, WhatsUp Gold Flow Monitor data, and WhatsConnected configuration data is deleted.
WhatsUp
SQL Server 2005 Express Edition instance that was created during the installation. Select this option to remove ALL WhatsUp components from the system. Note: When this option is selected, WhatsUp Gold leaves SOME data behind, such as the \HTML
directory and the \Data
directory for situations where there may be user-modified or user-created files in those directories.
The default port assigned to the Flow Collector Service is 9999. During installation, Flow Monitor automatically creates an exception for this port on the Windows Firewall if the firewall is enabled. If you change the default port number from the default setting, you need to change the exception port on the Windows firewall to the new port number.
Potential SQL Server Express installation errors
WhatsUp
" instance)Configuring the firewall to allow WMI traffic
WhatsUp Gold uses Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) to monitor and restart NT Services. For each device that is assigned an NT Service Active Monitor, you must supply the Windows credentials. Also, when creating a Service Restart Action, you must supply Windows credentials for each Action. Credentials must have administrative permissions on the remote server. Local accounts with credentials that match remote accounts are no longer required to monitor remote servers.
Credentials are configured in the WhatsUp Gold Credentials Library and used in several places throughout WhatsUp Gold. They can also be associated to devices in Device Properties > Credentials, or through Bulk Field Change for Credentials.
The use of WMI could have some implications if target devices are behind a firewall. To successfully monitor and/or restart NT Services, you need to modify firewall settings so that:
For more Troubleshooting information, see the Troubleshooting section in the application Help or User Guide.
The following are known issues in WhatsUp Gold v14.3.1:
WhatsConfigured Archive Search
1) In the WhatsConfigured Archive Search page, after clicking the Search button, the number of Archives Containing searched pattern does not update. 2) When you click View to view details for a result in the list, the detailed results do not appear. 3) An Ajax call error message dialog occassionally opens and resets the WhatsConfigured Archive Search page to blank. To work around these issues, use the WhatsConfigured Archive Search feature in the console.
WhatsConfigured Policy Audit
In the WhatsConfigured Archive Policy Audit page, when a user selects one of the archives and patterns, WhatsConfigured should display detailed matching result for this pattern at the bottom of this page, however nothing is displayed. To work around this issue, use the WhatsConfigured Archive Policy Audit feature in the console.
The following are known issues in WhatsUp Gold v14.3:
When using SNMP Set Action, the read community string is being used for credentials in place of the write community string for the WhatsUp Gold SNMP credentials. To work around this issue, enter the write credentials into the read credentials box.
In the device discovery process, when doing a VMware Scan or an IP Range Scan and the Autoscan virtualization environments option is selected, discovery is supposed to automatically scan the VMware hosts managed by a vCenter server it has discovered. In some cases, host IP addresses are not correctly picked up during the scan of a vCenter server and hosts are not be scanned automatically as they should be. To workaround this issue:
Critical monitors are not being respected if non-critical monitors have an independent polling frequency and critical monitors are enabled. To workaround this issue, disable the critical monitor, turn off the independent polling for the active monitors that it is set on, then re-enable the critical monitor and it will now respect the critical monitor.
For VMs hosted on VMware Host, we use the VMware API to collect data through VMware host. With the API, we do not require SNMP credential settings for these VMs in order to poll the Performance Monitor data. As long as we know the VMware credential for VMware Host and relationship between VMs and VMware Host, these monitors work. However, the current discovery design uses Roles and SNMP credentials to check whether VM monitors should be selected or not when a user adds devices into WhatsUp Gold. So VMs's CPU, Memory, and Disk Performance Monitors will not be selected in the VM device properties after being added into WhatsUp Gold from discovery. A workaround for this issue is to select VMware group sub-folders, created by discovery, and use the Bulk Field Change feature (from right-click menu) to enable all CPU, Memory, and Disk Performance Monitors for all devices within selected folders.
Library Dialogs
The SNMP Trap Passive Monitor Instance dialog does not disable the Edit and Remove buttons when the regular expressions Match On box is empty. This causes an error if a user selects the Edit button instead of the Add button and attempts to configure a regular expression. This only occurs for the SNMP trap type.
Full Reports
Column resizing does not work for full reports in Firefox.
Translation
Exporting from the language library times out and/or causes errors with Firefox 3.6 and IIS. To workaround this issue, only export the language library if using the default web server included with WhatsUp Gold.
Multiple buttons in WhatsUp Gold are not translated in web's Go > Configure menu dialogs.
Workspace Reports
When the Top Ports workspace report is added to a workspace view in WhatsUp Gold, it lists all ports as "undefined," even though the icons for the ports are displayed correctly and clicking through applies the correct filters. To workaround this issue, delete the "undefined" filter that gets applied and filter on ports that are present (e.g. 443). The "undefined" listings go away and are replaced with the correct ports.
Device Properties Dialog
A VMWare virtual machine added to vCenter Server in device properties does not show in list until dialog is closed and re-opened. To workaround this issue, click OK then open the virtualization section again, the device appears.
Flow Monitor Reports
The Flow Monitor Interface Usage report is showing an error when sent as an attached recurring report (using the old recurring .mht
report scheme). When the attached .mht
file is viewed, the report page loads with an error message displayed in lieu of the report data. To workaround this issue, this report shows fine when sent using the new Scheduled Reports feature. It is only an issue with the legacy Recurring Reports (which are still available for use in the WhatsUp Gold console).
SNMP MIB Manager does not detect errors in MIBs.
When using the WhatsUp Gold eval install build and upgrading from previous WhatsUp Gold versions to 14.3, the upgrade calls for a reboot during the install. After the reboot, "Failed to set system tray icon." error messages may appear. The NmTaskTray process is running, however the Task Tray application is not visible. In some instances this error persist after activation and randomly pops-up while working within WhatsUp Gold until the NmTaskTray process is stopped and restarted. This issue is consistently seen in the following cases: once you reboot after install upgrade requests a reboot, adding devices after a device discovery, and after restarting the Ipswitch Service Control Manager. To work around this issue, reboot the machine a second time after the upgrade reboot request. After the reboot, the issue should stop.
Some console help topics, that include code examples, may display the html code in the example. To workaround this issue, press F5 to refresh the page and display the code example without the html code.
The option to export maps to Microsoft Visio has been removed from WhatsUp Gold. However, if you have WhatsConnected plug-in, you can export WhatsConnected maps to Visio. For more information, please see the WhatsConnected plug-in Help.
