Flow Database Properties

This dialog displays statistics about the size of either the Flow or Archive Database, depending on the icon you click on the Flow Home Page.

• Database name. This is the database name as defined by Flow Monitor during initial configuration.
• Database edition. This is the edition of the SQL Server database; is displayed as Express, Standard, or Enterprise.
  • Express - SQL Server 2005 Express Edition
  • Standard - SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition
  • Enterprise - SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition

Note: The four following fields display the overall health of your database. A growing current size and a shrinking amount of unused space indicate the need to purge data, upgrade your hardware, or upgrade to the next edition of MS SQL. You can configure database roll up and purge settings on the Flow Settings dialog.

• Current size. This is the current size of the database in relation to the maximum size of your database. If the size of your database is growing rapidly, you can increase the time of your data collection interval via the Flow Settings dialog.
• Maximum size. This is the largest size to which your database can grow. If you are using SQL Server Express Edition, and the size of your database is continuously close to its maximum size, consider switching to the full SQL Server edition.

  Note: When the full Microsoft SQL Server database is used, N/A appears in this field because the dbase size is not limited.

• Unused space. This is the amount of space currently available. A shrinking amount of unused space may signal the need for a change in data-purge settings.
• Percent used. This is the percentage of the database currently in use. If you see an increasing percentage of database space used, consider modifying the collection interval or data roll up settings, or purge data from the database.

  Note: When the full Microsoft SQL Server database is used, N/A appears in this field because the dbase size is not limited.

  Note: Modifying collection interval settings affects the granularity you see in Flow Monitor reports. If the interval is set to 5 minutes, you cannot distinguish traffic logged in the first minute from traffic logged the fourth minute.

Click OK to close the dialog.
