Distributed Installation Procedures (Central Site)
To install WhatsUp Gold:
- Log in to Microsoft Windows as Administrator or using a comparable account with full administrative privileges to the computer.
- Double-click the downloaded WhatsUp Gold installation file to start the WhatsUp Setup. If you purchased a WhatsUp Setup CD-ROM, insert the disk into the computer. If WhatsUp Setup does not run automatically, click , then enter the CD path followed by AutoRun.exe (for example, D:\AutoRun.exe).
- Select the language in which you want the WhatsUp Gold installer to run, then click .
- Read the Welcome screen and indicate you want to configure WhatsUp Gold using mode. Advanced installation installs the application using additional user-defined settings including Failover and/or Distributed features, an existing instance of SQL Server, or a dedicated Windows account for IIS. Then, click to proceed.
- Review the results of the system configuration check. If any prerequisite checks did not pass, please resolve them, then click to perform the system configuration check again. Click to proceed.
- Enable , then click to proceed to License Information.
- Enter your WhatsUp Gold Activation Key, then click .
- Enable the applicable checkbox to indicate you intend to install WhatsUp Gold with Distributed features. Depending on the activation key entered, this feature may be enabled automatically.
- Configure your SQL Server instance as follows:
- If you would like to use the local SQL Server 2014 Express SP1 instance included with WhatsUp Gold:
- Select , then click .
- Select the destination folders for the SQL Server Express application and data files, then click .
- Enter and confirm a password for the SQL Server Administrator account to use to access the database instance, then click .
- Enter names for the WhatsUp, iDrone, and NetFlow databases, then click .
- Enter and confirm a password for the new SQL Server Login WhatsUp Gold will use to access the databases, then click .
- Select the destination folder for the WhatsUp Gold installation, then click .
- Enter the TCP port number for WhatsUp Gold to use for communication with the IIS website, then click . The default and recommended port number is 80.
- Enter a user name and password for the new Windows account created for dedicated WhatsUp Gold use, then click .
- If prompted, click , then click . Note that the presentation of this option is dependent upon the license key entered. It will not be displayed if your specific key has distributed features enabled or disabled by default.
- Enter a user name and password for the Remote Site installation to use for accessing the Central Site currently being installed, then click .
- Select the language packs you'd like to install for use with WhatsUp Gold, then click .
- Click . The WhatsUp Gold install program begins the installation. When the installation program completes, the InstallShield Wizard Complete dialog appears.
- Click . The setup program closes.
- If you would like to use an existing SQL Server instance:
- Select , then click .
- Enter the SQL Server name or IP address (followed by the database instance if you are connecting to a non-default database instance, e.g.,
ip address\database name
) along with the SQL Server Administrator Login name and password for WhatsUp Gold to use to access the existing instance, then click . - Enter names for the WhatsUp, iDrone, and NetFlow databases, then click .
: If prompted to do so, please back up the databases, then specify the location for the backup files before proceeding.
- Enter and confirm a password for the new SQL Server Login WhatsUp Gold will use to access the databases, then click .
- Select the destination folder for the WhatsUp Gold installation, then click .
- Enter the TCP port number for WhatsUp Gold to use for communication with the IIS website, then click . The default and recommended port number is 80.
- Enter a user name and password for the new Windows account created for dedicated WhatsUp Gold use, then click .

- Click . The setup program closes.
: After Central Site installation is complete, confirm Remote Site connections are allowed under Program Options in the WhatsUp Gold Admin Console application. For additional information, see Configuring WhatsUp Gold Distributed Edition in the WhatsUp Gold help.
: If you installed WhatsUp Gold with Failover features in addition to Distributed features, you must also proceed with Finalizing WhatsUp Gold installation using Failover features to successfully complete installation of WhatsUp Gold.
