Backing up the WhatsUp Gold databases

If you are migrating your WhatsUp Gold database and/or migrating a WhatsUp Gold installation that uses a database instance local to the machine running WhatsUp Gold you must back up the database files prior to completing the applicable migration procedures.

Important: Any data collected from the time you back up the databases to when you restore them on the new server will be lost. Ipswitch recommends executing these procedures during non-peak times when minimal downtime can best be tolerated.

To back up WhatsUp Gold databases:

  1. Validate the collation of the SQL Server matches the current collation of the source SQL Server installation.
  2. Launch the WhatsUp Gold console application.
  3. Select Tools > Database Utilities > Backup WhatsUp SQL Database.
  4. Enter an identifying name for the WhatsUp database backup and save the .bak file.
  5. Select Tools > Database Utilities > Backup Network Traffic Analyzer SQL Databases > Backup Network Traffic Analyzer Current Database.
  6. Enter an identifying name for the NetFlow database backup and save the .bak file.
  7. Select Tools > Database Utilities > Backup Network Traffic Analyzer SQL Databases > Backup Network Traffic Analyzer Archive Database.
  8. Enter an identifying name for the NFArchive database backup and save the .bak file.
  9. If the destination Microsoft SQL Server is installed on a remote computer, copy the backup files (.bak) created during the backup process to the remote computer.
