Monitoring Dell Compellent Storage Environments

Use the following procedure steps to configure Dell Compellent devices in order to successfully monitor them using WhatsUp Gold.

  1. Log in to the Dell Storage Manager client.
  2. Select the storage center you want to monitor using WhatsUp Gold.
  3. Select Edit Settings.
  4. Select SNMP Server.
  5. Select the SNMP version you want to use for access
  6. Create a new SNMP credential set. You'll create a matching SNMP credential in WhatsUp Gold to discover and monitor the device.
  7. Click Apply.
  8. Log in to the Dell Storage Manager Data Collector.
  9. Select Users and User Groups.
  10. Create a new user account with administrator privileges. These account details will be used when creating the SMI-S credential in WhatsUp Gold.
  11. Select SMI-S.
  12. Select the Enabled checkbox and make note of the port number displayed. These account details will also be used when creating the SMI-S credential in WhatsUp Gold.
  13. Click Apply.
