Rules overview
The rules feature lets you define actions and notifications that are triggered by specific events. You can set up rules to prevent or allow actions (such as downloading a file or creating a folder) and to send notifications via email, pager or SMS. A rule can also execute a program on the server when the event occurs.
Rules can be applied to any combination of users and user groups.
There are four types of rules:
- can be configured to trigger a notification and/or disable a user account after the specified number of failed login attempts. For more information, see Creating a Failed Login Rule.
- are used to trigger a notification when a user performs a specified folder or file action on the server, including uploading a file or folder, downloading a file or folder, renaming a file or folder, deleting a file or folder, or creating a folder. Folder action rules can be configured to execute when one of these events succeeds and/or fails. For more information, see Creating Folder Action Rules.
- are used to govern the amount of disk space and the number of files users can upload to their home folders. For more information, see Creating a Quota Limit Rule.
- are used to throttle the amount of bandwidth a connection can consume. For more information, see Creating a Bandwidth Limit.
