A New Microsoft Windows Installer an installation and configuration service provided with Windows, has replaced the v11.02 InstallShield® IMail Server Installation. This change was made to overcome issues InstallShield® could not handle.
Warning: For customers pointing to a different WebClient folder, be aware the install will only update the WebClient folder found under the root top directory path "..\IMail\WebDir]WebClient". Any other WebClient folder will require a manual update.
Upgrade Warning: IMail Server installation will require the following possible reboots before proceeding:
- Windows Installer v4.5 installation
- Redistributable Package (x86) installation
Upgrading from previous InstallShield® installation to the new Windows Installer installation. Administrator's must be aware that should the Windows Installer installation fail, there are situations that certain items will not be recovered (Start menu shortcuts, IIS Virtual Directory), requiring the previous InstallShield® installation to be executed to restore IMail Server back to a functional state.
Note: The Service Start Settings page now only appears under "Configure Service Start Settings" button when Custom Setup is selected.
Warning for Customers Upgrading with Custom Files: Ipswitch recommends backing up all custom files in the event there are references outside of the "..IMail\Webdir\" folder that are lost.

Commtouch® Zero-Hour Virus Outbreak Protection provides a complementary shield to conventional AV technology, protecting in the earliest moments of malware outbreaks, and right through as each new variant emerges.
Server-side polymorphic malware has become impossible for traditional AV engines to block, since there are typically thousands of distinct variants, and malware distributors often release hundreds of new variants per hour.
Commtouch® Zero-Hour Virus Outbreak Protection provides a complementary shield to conventional AV technology, protecting in the earliest moments of malware outbreaks, and right through as each new variant emerges.
Signature-less protection is an essential complement to traditional AV technologies, security experts agree. By proactively scanning the Internet and identifying massive virus outbreaks as soon as they emerge, Commtouch's Zero-Hour Solution provides just that: proactive virus blocking that is effective and signature-independent.
Commtouch provides proactive virus detection to close the early-hour vulnerability gap during which millions of users are infected. Commtouch's proactive virus detection capabilities ensure users' protection hours before signatures are released.
"Aimed at detecting mass outbreak indicators, Zero-Hour is differentiated from other proactive virus detection technologies by several advantages. First and foremost is the immediate and accurate detection of new outbreaks" - Dan Yachin, IDC.
Robust and inherently immune to emerging foiling attempts, Commtouch has a proven record of being the first and highest performing among proactive virus control solutions. Commtouch's Zero-Hour Virus Outbreak Protection Solutions are based on RPD technology, which has a track record of protecting million of users globally.
Note: IMail Server was modified to handle the Commtouch scan at the SMTP level, allowing the new "Reject" classification type to occur, rejecting a message before being accepted.
A modification to SMTP Connection Checks has been made to allow the capability to reject connections versus receiving and then deleting the message. Connection Checks will begin checking as soon as the data is received from the SMTP client.
This SMTP Connection Check modification also allowed the capability to add Reject Connection as a new option to the following IMail Server features:
Upgrades will not affect any previous settings for Administrators that are using this feature. The Delete Message option functionality will still function as in previous versions. Administrators must also be aware that when the option Reject Connection is used, the validation will run during the MAIL FROM command.
Note: New installations will by default will not have Connection Checks or SPF enabled.
"adduser.exe has been rewritten to handle internationalization for the Full Name.
