System Settings

The System Settings page allows you to configure the settings for the IMail domain.

Domain Name (OHN). Enter the Official Host Name (OHN) that will be used to address mail to the users on the domain.
Gateway Host. Enter the name of another host (IMail Server) to send mail to when it cannot be delivered directly to the destination host. This can also be used in conjunction with the Send All Remote Mail Through Gateway option (on the Services tab, Queue Manager Settings page) to force mail delivery through the gateway host. Since IMail Server should be able to reach all hosts directly, this field should typically be left blank. If multiple gateway addresses are needed for redundancy they should be separated by a single space.
Default Host. By default the Default Host is set to the Domain Name (OHN) as shown above. This entry is used when no mail domain is specified in the e-mail address.
Important: Restart Web Service after changing the value of the Default Host.
Top Directory. The directory where IMail application files are installed. This is specified during installation.
Spool Directory. This is the temporary directory where messages are spooled while awaiting processing and where log files are kept. Use this text box to change the directory that stores log and temp files, as well as mail messages, attachments, etc. that are waiting for delivery.
- Browse. Use this button to browse to the directory that stores log and temp files, as well as mail messages, attachments, etc. that are waiting for delivery. See above instructions to create a new folder.
Log Directory. If you wish to separate log messages from spooled messages, use this text box to set up a separate directory.
- Browse. Click this button to set up a separate directory to store log files. See above instructions to create a new folder.
Log Server. Enter the IP address of the server to which IMail sends the log files.
Store Mailbox Metadata in SQL Database.
- Enabled. When enabled mailbox metadata will be stored in a SQL database.
  Important Information for Mailbox Metadata in SQL (Please read prior to enabling this feature)
  Enabling this option replaces the WebData and a large portion of the information that was stored in the UID files. Historically the IMail WebMail interface has suffered from poor performance with mailboxes near or over 1 GB in size. This option dramatically improves performance with large mailboxes, 10x to 100x performance increases when loading and switching between pages on 1 GB+ mailboxes. The WebMail Application pool in IIS also uses far less memory and will usually negate the need to run WebMail in a Web Garden configuration.
  
  We recommend this option only be enabled if your environment uses the WebMail interface. Mail Delivery (Queue Manager) and IMAP experience a slight degradation in performance when operating in this mode.
  
  Recommended steps for enabling this option
  1. It is recommended that the following steps be performed outside of normal business hours to minimize impact on normal operations.
  2. Stop all services including IIS.
  3. Enable the option and start all Services.
  4. Locate Convert.exe in the IMail installation directory and run it from an elevated command prompt. Depending on the amount of email data this process could take several hours to complete. The conversion process can take up to two minutes per GB of mail depending on server hardware specifications and system load. If Convert.exe is not run, a conversion will occur the next time a user accesses their account or a new message is delivered. This may appear to the user as though the server is unresponsive while the conversion process occurs.
  Important information regarding Microsoft SQL Express Database size limitations
  
  The database size is limited to 10 GB if the SQL Express edition of SQL Server is in use by IMail. Once a database reaches this size further attempts to insert data will fail. As a result, care will need to be exercised when determining if SQL Express is capable of handling your environment. As a rule of thumb the amount of data stored in the database will be about two to four times the combined size of all the .WebData and .UID files before conversion. If your environment exceeds the 10 GB limit a Standard or higher edition of Microsoft SQL server will need to be purchased. Also keep in mind the WorkgroupShare database is used for storing Contact, Calendar and other user data. The storage requirements for this type of data is usually minimal.
  
  Minimum System Requirements for enabling this feature.
  - Quad Core 2.4 GHz.
  - 8 GB Ram.
  - SQL 2008 or Later.
- Use SQL Authentication. Enable this option for improved performance in POP3, IMAP, and Queue Manager services.
  - Test Credentials. Click this button to test the credentials entered
- Fix Database. If there are problems with the WorkgroupShare Database this button will be enabled. It will attempt to correct any issues. You will get a list of items it was unable to fix if it fails.
