Defects resolved in WhatsUp Gold v16.2 Service Pack 9 (16.2.9)

The following outlines the defects resolved in WhatsUp Gold 16.2 Service Pack 9 (16.2.9).

Defect ID

Component

Issues

APM-1189
APM 1422

APM Plug-in

Corrected an issue that caused APM instances that have been deleted to repeatedly report to the logger log.

APM-1203

APM-EUM
Plug-in

Corrected an issue that previously allowed an APM EUM component to be configured using polling frequency, retry, and timeout values that conflicted with one another and/or were not supported by the EUM Poller (iDrone). Limited options for polling frequency and retry values as well as a maximum timeout value have been implemented in order to prevent future conflicts of this nature. In the event a user has configured an EUM component out of compliance with the new limitations, the component’s configuration settings will be updated automatically by APM during the upgrade process. Number of retries above 3 and timeout durations above 10 minutes will be reduced to these new maximums. Polling frequencies will then be decreased to the most frequent valid polling interval.

APM-1291

APM Plug-in

Corrected an issue in which APM status reports display current data when 'Previous Month' is selected.

APM-1415

APM Plug-in

Removed APM Profile titles for Oracle database versions. Profiles are not dependent on the database version.

APM-1428

APM Plug-in

Corrected an issue in which an action was triggered and logged only for the last instance when it should be triggered for all instances to which it is applied.

FLM-869

Flow Monitor Plug-in

An issue reported indicated that the interface details report displays half of the total interface utilization percentage when the inbound and outbound traffic direction is selected. However, the following is an explanation for this behavior:
In a test environment where traffic is sending from 1.1.1.1 to 1.1.1.2 from two different traffic generators, one of them producing UDP and another producing TCP traffic. In this example interface number 1 sees 97.21% utilization for "In", 0% for "Out" and 48.61% for "In and Out," just as described in the original defect description. However, this is behavior is expected because when calculating Utilization for "In and Out" for Traffic Details page, we use combined bandwidth of the interface in both directions, full duplex. So if the In and Out speeds are the same for the interface and there is zero traffic for "Out" then the "In and Out" traffic will effectively be half that of "In" traffic, just as described in the original defect description. This is not a defect and is working as designed.

FLM-891

Flow Monitor Plug-in

Corrected an issue that caused Flow Monitor Top Conversations report to display an error when attempting to view data in the NFArchive database.

FLM-896

Flow Monitor Plug-in

Corrected an issue so users with no permissions to Flow Monitor reports also do not have access to Flow Monitor sources.

FLM-3092

Flow Monitor Plug-in

Corrected an issue where FlowMonitor displays potentially misleading data when sFlow also includes total interface traffic.

FLM-3258

Flow Monitor Plug-in

Corrected an issue in which a newly added flow source was incorrectly shown to have a rate of -1 flows per minute rather than 0.

WCF-195

WhatsConfigured Plug-in

Corrected an issue that caused Telnet credentials to fail for some devices with the WhatsConfigured Plug-in.

WUG-8008

Business Hours

Corrected an issue where it appeared that data was not being reported when business hours were applied to a report configuration. This behavior is not a defect, but improved by introducing a new message informing users that business hour-specific data for the selected date range is not available due to data roll up.

WUG-8105

Wireless

Corrected an issue that caused a FaultException error with Wireless device map displays.

WUG-8151

Devices and Groups

Corrected an issue in which the General tab on the Device Properties interface failed to validate the target device's IP address.

WUG-8872

Disk Utilization Performance Monitor

Updated product documentation to notify the end-user that Disk Utilization performance monitor data collection is limited to drives that are 16 TB or smaller. This addressed an issue where the Disk Utilization performance monitor reports incorrect/odd values on very large disks.

WUG-8898

Reports

Corrected an issue that was preventing scheduled set and reset messages from displaying in the State Change Timeline report.

WUG-9743

Reports

Corrected an issue that was preventing interface names from being updated correctly in Interface Utilization Web reports.

WUG-11772

Credentials

Corrected an issue where using the Bulk Field Change feature to modify credentials resulted in those credentials being unassigned from the target device(s).

WUG-12129

Alert Center

Corrected an issue that caused Active Directory users with READ access to devices and groups to be unable to see Alert Center Thresholds until explicitly granted READ access to the device and groups.

WUG-12162

Maps

An issue reported indicated that in the Map View dashboard, a device group cannot be selected in Chrome 32. We determined that this was an issue in the way Chrome 32 functioned. This issue is no longer reproducible in Chrome 39.

WUG-12207
WUG-12408

Reports

Corrected an issue that caused some very large reports to fail due to exceeding buffer limits.

WUG-12372

Devices and Groups

Corrected an issue that caused devices with Layer 2 data available to not display in the Asset Inventory reports for recursive dynamic groups.

WUG-12406

Discovery

Corrected an issue in which configured start times for scheduled discoveries were not saved.

WUG-12443

Device Roles

Corrected an issue that caused a custom SNMP active monitor with SNMP v3 credentials to not be applied, using a custom device role, during initial device discovery.

WUG-12475

Temperature Monitor

Corrected an issue for temperature sensor reporting that used Cisco entSensorTypeValue table, a status of unavailable is now considered up. Also reduced the logging to only failed sensors statuses when polling. Full verbose logging is still available while testing using the test button in the WhatsUp Gold console.

WUG-12509

Wireless

Corrected an issue that caused some wireless controllers to throw an error in the Wireless Log when running SNMP v3.

WUG-12729

Email Actions

Corrected an issue that caused port settings, configured to use a non-default ports for Alert Center email actions, to revert back to the default port setting after a WhatsUp Gold upgrade.

WUG-12824

Ping Performance Monitor

Corrected a min and max calculation for the Ping Performance monitor that occurred when a ping took 0 milliseconds.

WUG-12951

Email Actions

Corrected an issue that caused some email actions that were applied to Active Monitors and triggered or an email action that is manually tested, to report successful when it failed. This was seen when the timeout is 30 seconds or higher and the SMTP server information was entered as an IP address instead of a hostname.

WUG-12972

Group Status

Corrected an issues that caused Group status (icons) from updating.

WUG-12980

Devices and Groups

Corrected an issue, in the web interface only, which caused all subnets for a device to remain displayed when only a specified group of subnets was selected.

WUG-12985

Disk Utilization report

Corrected an issue that caused Disk Utilization report summary stats to double when exported to a PDF.

Configuring WhatsUp Event Log Management Reports for WhatsUp Gold

WhatsUp Gold version 15.0 and later provides integration with the WhatsUp Event Log Management central database. For access to the reports and data, you must also have WhatsUp Event Log Management products, specifically WhatsUp Event Archiver and/or WhatsUp Event Alarm, configured to send collected log data to a MS SQL Server. WhatsUp Gold accesses report data through stored procedures in the ELM database. For more information, see Using Event Log Management Reports in WhatsUp Gold.

Troubleshooting

Potential SQL Server Express installation errors

Configuring the firewall to allow WMI traffic

WhatsUp Gold uses Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) to monitor and restart Windows Services. For each device that is assigned an NT Service Active Monitor, you must supply the Windows credentials. Also, when creating a Service Restart Action, you must supply Windows credentials for each Action. Credentials must have administrative permissions on the remote server. Local accounts with credentials that match remote accounts are no longer required to monitor remote servers.

Credentials are configured in the WhatsUp Gold Credentials Library and used in several places throughout WhatsUp Gold. They can also be associated to devices in Device Properties > Credentials, or through Bulk Field Change for Credentials.

The use of WMI could have some implications if target devices are behind a firewall. To successfully monitor and/or restart NT Services, you need to modify firewall settings so that:

  1. The RPC port (135) is open for connections.
  2. The DCOM port range is defined and open for connections.

For more Troubleshooting information, see the Troubleshooting section in the application Help or refer to the WhatsUp Gold Support Site.
