What's New in MOVEit Automation 2021

The following new features and improvements were added to MOVEit Automation 2021.

Support for alternate storage provider S3 hosts

The expansion of the S3 host to utilize alternate endpoints allows MOVEit Automation administrators to create hosts at alternate storage providers that utilize the S3 protocol to interact with other systems. This includes cloud storage and hardware devices that adhere to the S3 protocol. For more information, see Amazon S3 Host.

IP/User Lockout Policy

The new IP/User lockout policy provides MOVEit Automation administrators with the means to implement additional security mechanisms to block access to MOVEit Automation. By defining rules for when IP addresses and users are locked out, as well as managing a list of trusted IP addresses that are exempt from the IP lockout policy, MOVEit Automation administrators manage the IP/User Lockout Policy. For more information, see IP/User Lockout Policy.

The IP/User lockout policy and trusted IP address list are accessible from the Web Admin and the Configuration Utility tool. The Configuration Utility Lockout tab should only be used when the Web Admin is not available.

LockoutPolicy

The Manage Lockouts functionality allows MOVEit Automation administrators to manually unlock locked out IP addresses and users. For more information, see Manage Lockouts.

Enhanced Email Notifications

MOVEit Automation users can now enjoy a more user-friendly email experience that utilizes HTML formatting and macro inclusion. Task creators and recipients benefit from the choice of HTML or plain text email options when adding Send Email as a Next Action in Traditional and Synchronization tasks, or Send Email as a Step element in Advanced tasks.

HTMLEmail

Enhanced Advanced Task Workflow

There are two Advanced Task Configuration View options: Original and Updated (2021.0). You can switch between the two views without any loss of functionality. For more information, see Advanced Task Configuration View.

The Updated (2021.0) Advanced Task configuration view is based on a more modern and efficient web UI workflow. The improved UI layout provides greater visibility to the advanced task schedule and steps as well as enhanced accessibility to improved functionality. The enhancements include improved navigation within advanced tasks, enhanced visibility of groupings, improved edit options, and the ability to drag-and-drop steps within the task configuration. For more information, see Updated (2021.0) Advanced Task.

Web Admin and Admin Console Support

MOVEit Automation 2021 supports both the MOVEit Automation Web Admin and the older MOVEit Automation Admin Console interfaces. The MOVEit Automation Web Admin interface was introduced with the MOVEit Automation 9.0 release.

If you are accessing the same MOVEit Automation server, most of the resources and capabilities available in one user interface are also available using the other user interface. For example, a MOVEit Transfer Host defined using the MOVEit Automation Web Admin user interface can be edited, deleted or used in a task while using the MOVEit Automation Admin Console user interface.

We recommend using the MOVEit Automation Web Admin user interface which allows access to several features not available in the MOVEit Automation Admin Console.

Upgrading

Upgrading to the latest version of MOVEit Automation ensures that you have access to the latest features, fixes, security updates, and usability improvements.

If you have a support subscription, upgrades are free. For licensing information, read this MOVEit License FAQ article.

Get the Installer and Activation Code

To get a MOVEit installer package:

  1. Log in to the Progress Customer and Community portal and select Product Downloads.
  2. Download the product package.

When you get your MOVEit product package from your Progress Community page, the activation code is embedded in the download file and is automatically applied during installation.

The activation code is also stored in the Product Downloads section of the Progress Community for reference.

  3. Before you run the upgrade installer.

Upgrade Paths

MOVEit Automation 2021 supports "direct upgrade" (upgrade by way of running the MOVEit Automation installer) for existing MOVEit Automation 2019 (11.0.0) and newer.

Use the Upgrade Path table below to determine the most efficient upgrade path from your current version to MOVEit Automation 2021.

The MOVEit Automation installer checks your version number and prevents upgrades from versions earlier than 2019 (11.0).

Your version

Upgrade path

MOVEit Automation 2019 (11.0) or later

  1. Download MOVEit Automation 2021 from the Progress Community.
  2. Your upgrade activation code is embedded in the installer file, and is automatically used during installation.

MOVEit Automation 2018 SP2 (10.2) or earlier

  1. Upgrade to a supported version, such as 2019 (11.0) using the 2019 installer in upgrade mode.
  2. Use the latest installer to upgrade to 2021.

If your product version is close to or past its sunset or retirement milestones, upgrade to the latest version of MOVEit Automation. For more information, see the Product Lifecycle page.

Web Admin

When you upgrade to MOVEit Automation 2021, you must also update Web Admin.

  • Web Admin 13.0 works only with MOVEit Automation 2021

MOVEit Automation 2021 Web Admin verifies that the MOVEit Automation Server version is compatible during log on. Users cannot log on to the MOVEit Automation Server if the version is incompatible.

Upgrade Considerations

Latest features and improvements

Known Issues

This section details known issues and workarounds in MOVEit Automation 2021.

ID

Category

Known Issue

30475

SharePoint

It is not possible to create a SharePoint host if that host requires a proxy server as part of its definition. To resolve this issue, contact Technical Support.

28751

SharePoint

SharePoint files and folders containing the following special characters cannot be downloaded in MOVEit Automation.
~ " # % & * : < > ? / \ { | }.

29879

SharePoint

When an Office document is uploaded to SharePoint, SharePoint updates the document to store the SharePoint metadata that was added to the item in the library. This will cause the file size of the uploaded file to differ from the original file size.

8982

Web Admin

Non-admin users cannot import tasks in MOVEit Automation.

To resolve this issue, non-admin users should use the Admin Console rather than the Web Admin to import tasks. For more information, see Import Tasks.

UREP-5247

Central Agent, DMZ Agent

The Analytics Agent cannot connect to the MOVEit Transfer or MOVEit Automation with MySQL 8.

To resolve this issue, contact Technical Support to receive a hotfix.

362808

Web Admin

The Admin Console MOVEIt Log Group does not have the same level of access in Web Admin. Users who are only assigned to the MOVEIt Log Group cannot view any resources.

To resolve this issue, create and assign MOVEIt Log Group users to a new resource group with read-only permissions for all existing resources. The resource group will need to be updated when new resources are added to Web Admin.

Neverfail

If the default task logs location in MOVEit Automation is changed, the task logs will not replicate in Neverfail.

32589

Web Admin

It is not possible to place the cursor after a table in a HTML email.
To work around this issue, before inserting a table insert lines in the HTML email body, then insert the table above the blank lines.

35354

Web Admin

There are inconsistencies in HTML email table cell padding across different email providers, resulting in variations in appearance.

35361

Web Admin

To achieve consistent fonts across email providers, format the text to use a specific font and font size.
