Quick Install

Before you begin

You need the following to install MOVEit Transfer:

Windows Admin User or Equivalent
- Quick install/evaluation scenarios. At install time MOVEit Transfer requires an unrestricted local administrator account for Windows Server. This account owns/runs the MOVEit services.
- Production scenarios (follow the principal of least privilege). Install as local Windows administrator, but run as a non-admin Windows user with elevated privileges dedicated to MOVEit Transfer. This user will need 'runas' privileges for starting/spawning MOVEit Transfer services and app pools.
Product Installer. MOVEit Transfer product installer you downloaded from Ipswitch.
License. (You will be asked for either the license file location or the serial number during the install.)
Windows Server. A server machine (with required Windows updates and service packs) that satisfies the software and hardware requirements.
SMTP Server Name. A server name for a SMTP (email) server that MOVEit Transfer can use in order to relay notifications to users.
Internet Connectivity. In case the installer needs to download dependencies to upgrade your MS Windows platform libraries (.NET 4.5, for example).
Default Browser. After a successful install, the Administrator Web UI launches automatically. It expects a default browser to be already configured. (This mainly affects you if you are installing on Windows Server 2016).

Install or point to a database, either:
- Install MySQL. Express Setup installs MySQL on the local machine.
- Point to an existing SQL Server Database.
  Point to an instance of Azure SQL.

1.	Run the Installer (Click Next to agree to the End User License Agreement)	Choose a database: Express. (Easiest) MySQL server and MOVEit Transfer will be installed in the default folder. Custom. You can choose your installation targets, choice of database, and filestore location. New and Eval Users: Express installation offers an low-friction way to begin sending and sharing folders and packages to get started with MOVEit Transfer.
2.	Provide License Key or File	If you download your MOVEit Transfer installer from the customer portal, an activation key will be embedded in the installer file and populated for you automatically. Otherwise: Enter an activation key, or... Browse for and load the MOVEit Transfer license file. Note: Choose Offline Activation if the server host you are installing to does not have Internet access.
3.	Select Modules and Launch System Check	MOVEit Transfer Server. Includes DB transaction server, Web UI, and console UI. If you selected Express in Step 1, you will also install a MOVEit Transfer MySQL instance. MOVEit Transfer Mobile. Server and presentation for MOVEit Mobile Apps.
4.	User Credentials (sysadmin password needed for sign on)	SysAdminPassword. Used for sign on to Web UI. Accept or modify. Windows Service User. User account where MOVEit Transfer runs. Note: Before you install, the installer allows you to save these settings to a text file.
5.	Host and Mail Service	Public URL. Specify a hostname for MOVEit Transfer Web UI. Email Server. Specify an SMTP (email) server used to send notifications. To and From address. Most SMTP servers will not forward emails without a return address.
6.	Copy Credentials and Proceed	View/copy install details before you install the software to the current system. You can copy DB, platform User, and application user before you run this step. You will need the admin user credentials for Web UI sign on.
7.	Post Install Checks/Sign On	Run email relay test. (Optional) Run postinstall checks.
	Sign On	Sign on using the password from the file you saved in Step 6 You can now create your site and apply your policy settings.
