VMware Event Log

VMware Event Log returns an aggregate view of vCenter server logs. You can determine which categories of event messages to collect when you enable WhatsVirtual event listeners for each vCenter server device.

Each log message record contains the following data columns:

• Date. Date and time group for the event message.
• Device. Device hostname, IP address, or custom label. This is the device where the event occurred.
• DataCenter. Name of the data center if event is specific to a data center.
• Host. Name of the host if event is specific to a host.
• VirtualMachine. Name of the virtual machine if event is specific to a virtual machine.
• User. VMWare user name associated with the event (applicable when event is the result of user action).

Fetch and filter log data

Choose device. Choose one or more host devices.

Choose time constraints. Choose specific windows for log data, or choose Last Polled for the latest.

Filter and reduce by row and by column. Select rows based on specific column values, remove columns, and remove noise and chaff from the table.

Note: VMware Event Log only returns log messages for hosts that have the appropriate WhatsVirtual listeners and event collection enabled. For more details, see Enable WhatsVirtual Event Listeners.

Email, print, share, and export

VMware Event Log log data can be exported, reused, and distributed.

• Email. Email log data.
• Print. Print grid and chart views.
• Share. Share VMware Event Log reports with other users in a single or combined view.
• Export. Export VMware Event Log data and leverage outside of WhatsUp Gold.
