Install WhatsUp Gold using either the Standard or Advanced workflow
: The procedure steps presented in this topic describe the most common (Standard and Advanced) installation workflows you can follow to successfully install WhatsUp Gold. However, if your license includes Log Management, Failover, and/or Distributed functionality, you will also be presented with additional feature-specific installation steps at the appropriate point(s) during the installation process. It is imperative you carefully review ALL important information and warnings regarding these more advanced features prior to selecting applicable configuration options during installation to ensure success.
Prior to installing WhatsUp Gold with Log Management, please review Configure your Elasticsearch instance for use with Log Management and Upgrading an existing WhatsUp Gold installation to include Log Management in addition to the information below.
Prior to installing WhatsUp Gold with Failover, please review Additional steps to configure Failover during installation, Finalize Failover configuration following installation, and Order of operations for installing WhatsUp Gold using Failover AND Distributed features in addition to the information below.
Prior to installing WhatsUp Gold with Distributed, please review Additonal steps to configure Distributed (Central Site) during installation, Additional steps to configure Distributed (Remote Site) during installation, and Order of operations for installing WhatsUp Gold using Failover AND Distributed features in addition to the information below.
To install WhatsUp Gold:
- Launch the WhatsUp Gold installation program.
- When prompted, select the language in which you want the WhatsUp Gold installer to run, then click .
- Read the Welcome screen and indicate if you want to configure WhatsUp Gold using either or mode.
- If you select , WhatsUp Gold will be installed with a dedicated instance of SQL Server Express 2017. Additionally, if your license includes Log Management features, a dedicated instance of Elasticsearch will also be installed. If you want to use an existing instance of SQL Server or Elasticsearch, choose the option and provide your connection information when prompted during the installation process.
- If you select you can install WhatsUp Gold using more user-defined settings including specifying a dedicated Windows account for IIS and, depending on your license, enabling Failover and/or Distributed features, and pointing to an existing instance of SQL Server and/or Elasticsearch.
Click to proceed.
- If you are presented with results of a system configuration check, please review the results prior to continuing the installation process. If any prerequisite checks did not pass, please resolve them, then click to perform the system configuration check again.
Click to proceed. - Enter your WhatsUp Gold Activation Key, then click to proceed.
: This dialog also presents you with options for requesting an evaluation license, activating WhatsUp Gold using a license file, or using offline activation mode. For additional information on these options, please contact product support.
- Configure your SQL Server instance as follows:
- If you chose , enter and confirm a password for the SQL Server Administrator account to use to access the database instance, then click .
- If you chose and would like to use the local SQL Server 2017 Express instance included with WhatsUp Gold:
- If you choose and would like to use an existing SQL Server instance:
- Select , then click .
- Enter the SQL Server name or IP address (followed by the database instance if you are connecting to a non-default database instance, e.g.,
ip address\database name) along with the SQL Server Administrator Login name and password for WhatsUp Gold to use to access the existing instance, then click . - Enter names for the WhatsUp, iDrone Service, and NetFlow databases, then click .
- Enter and confirm a password for the new SQL Server Login WhatsUp Gold will use to access the databases, then click .
- Select the destination folder for the WhatsUp Gold installation, then click .
- Select the binding protocol(s) WhatsUp Gold will use for the IIS website. You may select HTTPS, HTTP, or both depending on your specific security needs. If you are using an existing binding, select it from the applicable drop-down menu, then click . If your are adding a new binding, specify the desired port number(s) to use if you do not want to use the default port number(s) populated by the installer. If you chose to use HTTPS and a new binding will be added, specify the source of the certificate required for binding. You may select a certificate from a certificate store, navigate to and select a certificate file on your local machine, or generate a self-signed certificate. Then, click to proceed.
- Enter a password for the new Windows account created for dedicated WhatsUp Gold use, then click .
- Select the language or languages you would like to install for use with the application, then click .
- Select the binding protocol(s) WhatsUp Gold will use for the IIS website. You may select HTTPS, HTTP, or both depending on your specific security needs. If you are using an existing binding, select it from the applicable drop-down menu, then click . If your are adding a new binding, specify the desired port number(s) to use if you do not want to use the default port number(s) populated by the installer.
: If you chose to use HTTPS and a new binding will be added, specify the source of the certificate required for binding. You may select a certificate from a certificate store, navigate to and select a certificate file on your local machine, or generate a self-signed certificate. Then, click to proceed.
: If you are using the Advanced installation workflow and have already configured your HTTP/HTTPS binding options, please proceed to the next step.
- Click . The WhatsUp Gold install program begins the installation. When the installation program completes, the InstallShield Wizard Complete dialog appears.
- Click . The setup program closes.
