Add/Edit New SNMP v3 Credential Type
How to get here
- Go to the Credentials Library.
- From the web interface, click . The GO menu appears.
- If the WhatsUp section is not visible, click . The WhatsUp section of the GO menu appears.
- Select . The Credentials Library dialog appears.
- Click . The Select Credential Type dialog appears.

Click . The Edit SNMPv3 Credential Type dialog appears.
- Select , then click . The Add SNMPv3 Credential Type dialog appears.
Use this dialog to create a SNMP v3 credential type for use with the credentials system. The Credentials system stores community string information for SNMP devices in your WhatsUp Gold database to be used whenever a read or write community string is needed to monitor a device.
- . Enter a name for the credential type. This name appears in the Credentials Library list.
- . Enter a short description for this credential. The description appears with the name in the Credentials Library list.
- . Enter the username that is configured for the SNMP agent. This username is included in every SNMP packet in the authentication header. An SNMP device, upon reception of a packet, uses this username to look for configured authentication and encryption parameters and applies them to the received message.
- . Enter the context needed to identify specific SNMP instances on your network. This box is optional.
- . If required, select the authentication protocol for this SNMP credential.
- If supported, select the encryption type to be used in the SNMP credential.
