What's New in IMail Server 10.02

• Microsoft Windows 2008 is now a supported OS by Ipswitch for IMail Server.

New for IMail Plus and IMail Premium

Ipswitch has implemented a new premium antispam engine from Commtouch to replace Mail-Filters StarEngineService. Commtouch Advanced Security Daemon (a.k.a. ctasd™) is a plug-and-play email-borne spam and malware outbreak detection daemon that combines your current core messaging network infrastructure with advanced detection and classification capabilities. The daemon adds a layer of e-mail filtering to your mail delivery system in order to provide real-time classification, already in the first minutes after a new outbreak is launched.

Important: Upgrading to IMail 10.02 Plus or Premium requires a license renewal to switch from Mail-Filters to Commtouch. Please keep in mind that once this upgrade has been made, downgrading will become an issue due to the Premium Filter change. Upgrading will handle both un-installation of your StarEngineservice, and installation of Commtouch's ctasd™.

New Commtouch's Ctasd™ Service Settings will replace the current Premium Antispam settings under Services as follows:

• IP Ignore List - The IP ignore list will contain IP addresses of all local mail servers within the organization (e.g. gateway servers, forwarding servers) that should automatically be considered non-spammers and therefore, should not be reported.
• Commtouch Port - Listening port number. (Default port is 8088.)
• Proxy Server Settings
  • Port. Port number used for connectivity with the proxy server. (Default port is 8088.)
  • Server Address. Specifies the host name or IP address of the proxy server.
  • Auth. Specifies the authentication mode for connectivity with the proxy server. Options are Basic or NoAuth. (Default set to Basic.)
  • Username. The name of an authorized user.
  • Password. The password of the authorized user.

New Commtouch Premium Filter will replace the current Mail-Filter Premium Filter settings under Antispam > Premium Filter.

When an incoming message is filtered, the Commtouch Premium Filter settings are applied before Standard antispam settings. The Commtouch Premium Filter provides the following classifications for administrators to create, remove, and manage spam.

• Confirmed. Spam messages from known spam sources.
• Bulk. Spam messages from sources that are not confirmed spammers.
• Suspected. Legitimate messages that are sent to slightly larger than average distribution or are unidentified spam messages in the first few seconds of a massive spam outbreak.
• Unknown. Messages for which Commtouch's ctasd™ does not have any incriminating information, and are therefore assumed to represent legitimate correspondence.

New for IMail Server 10.01

Command Line Installation with Advanced Options for IMail Server. Designed as a method to allow silent installations on multiple computers that share similar configurations for new IMail Server installations only. See Command Line Installation, or the IMail Admin Help under Command Line Utilities > Installing with Advanced Command Line Options

Important: This command line utility will currently not work for repairs or upgrades. It was designed for new installations only.

Note: Activation on multiple computers will require multiple serial numbers.

New Web Calendar Features

• Calendar Meeting Requests can now be created using the new web messaging calendar. Currently these requests can only be responded to (Accept, Decline) with Outlook. We are still in the process of creating the capability for these requests to work in the Web Client. This new feature allows a user to send request e-mails to attend a meeting or event, with capability to automatically update their calendar depending on their response.
• Calendar Upgrades
  • A link to the old web calendar will still be available in the Web Client. This link (located in the upper right corner of the Web Client) will only display as long as the Web Calendar Service is running. The new Web Calendar uses the WorkgroupShare databases and does not require services.
  • Calendar conversion utility. "CalConvert.exe" utility exists under IMail directory to allow the conversion of the old web calendar to the new WorkgroupShare database.

    Warning: Client computers that do not have their DayLight Savings checkbox set (manual clock setting), and are in a Time Zone that uses Day Light Savings will have problems with their appointment conversions, when Day Light Savings turns on or off.

    Note: The new Web Calendar for the Web Client requires no services.

    Tip: For reminders to work properly, be sure that your pop-up blocker is turned off.

New WorkgroupShare Release (IMail Premium Only). A new release of WorkgroupShare version 2.3 from Softalk, Ltd., will be released with IMail Server Premium v10.01. WorkgroupShare 2.3 Release Notes.

• Fixes include issues that were occurring when synchronizing with WorkgroupShare calendars and "Access Denied" errors.

Message archiving will soon be available as an additional feature. IMail Server has added new user-interface to support new options for archiving. After successful installation of your archiving choice, go to IMail Web Administration System > System Settings to enable these settings.

New for IMail Server 10

• Ipswitch has designed its own Digital Rights Management tool to protect licensing and to secure delivery for all Messaging software. It will require a new method of activation of all users, whether upgrading from an older version or installing new.

  Ipswitch's new DRM will replace HASP from Aladdin Knowledge Systems, Inc. from IMail Server V10 forward.

  Note: Please visit MyIpswitch.com for more information on managing licenses, and customer assistance.

  Note: All previous IMail versions will continue to work and run using HASP from Aladdin.

• New Low Bandwidth Web Client - A new Web Messaging Lite client was created to allow users with low-bandwidth (dial-up) capability for quicker access to their mailbox. Users can access this new client through the same standard web messaging login screen, by checking the new option "Use Web Messaging Lite". This new client does not have all the features of the standard web client, so as to keep the bandwidth as light as possible. Some features that cannot be accessed are Rules, Contact Groups, Search and Auto Suggest. See your IMail Admin Help under Using IMail Web Messaging > Low Bandwidth Web Messaging Lite for more details.
  • New "Check All" Preference Setting (Web Messaging Lite Only). This setting, "Check All" will check all items across all pages in a mail folder. This feature controls check boxes on a current page or check boxes for all messages in the mailbox folder.
    • When this feature is checked, the "Check All" will mark all messages in the mailbox folder.
    • When this feature is unchecked, the "Check All" will check only the messages on the current page.

      Tip: Checkboxes Now Available for Standard Web Client and Web Messaging Lite

• New Message Display Check Box Preference Setting. By popular demand check boxes for message selection/deletion has been implemented. For users that prefer the check box selection method a new option setting in Preferences > Viewing Tab can be checked. Please note the following:
  • All new users by default will have the display check box preference turned on.
  • For existing users who have an existing preferences.config (saved users preferences) file, the check box option will be turned off.
  • For existing users that have never saved their preferences, they will be treated as a new user with the check box option turned on.

    Important: "Check All" check box for the Standard Web Client will only apply to the currently displayed page.

    Note: Check boxes require more space to display, hence fewer messages per page are displayed.

• New Web Calendar for Web Client - New web client calendar will provide a new web interface to allow scheduling tasks and appointments, that will work together with WorkgroupShare database. WorkgroupShare (IMail Premium Only) allows sharing of other user calendars, or public calendars.

  Calendar Upgrades

  • A link to the old web calendar will still be available in the Web Client. This link (located in the upper right corner of the Web Client) will only display as long as the Web Calendar Service is running. The new Web Calendar uses the WorkgroupShare databases and does not require services.

• Web Client Impersonation by System Administrator - System Administrators have the capability to access users web mail and preferences within the IMail Server. See your IMail Admin Help under Using IMail Web Messaging > User Impersonation by System Administrator for more details.
• User Password Complexity Setting - System Administrators now have the capability to control the complexity of user password settings. These settings can be controlled in the User Login Settings in Domain Properties. These password levels are controlled in the Web Client when a user changes their password in preferences. See your IMail Admin Help under Mail Domain (Host) Configuration > Domain Properties for more details.
• Account Suspension from Failed Logins (Web Messaging Only) - Account will now be suspended if the user fails to login with the correct User ID and password. The actual suspension of the account is dependent on the User Login Settings in Domain Properties. When a user is suspended due to unsuccessful login attempts, they will receive a message on the login page saying "Your account access has been suspended".
• Domain Forwarding is now available in the Web Admin under Services > SMTP > Domain Forwarding. The Web Admin will allow domain names to be forwarded to another designated IP address.
• Message Encoding (User Preference Setting) for users can now be controlled by the System Administrator at the user level (User Properties) or domain level (Global User Changes).

  Message Encoding options were added to the following Web Admin pages:

  • User Properties page,
  • User Default Settings,
  • User Utilities > Global User Changes.
• New User Interface for Contacts display. Redesigned with the following new features:
  • New search feature to simplify finding a user.
  • New sort capability by clicking on titles: Display Name and E-mail Address
  • Contacts are now displayed one per line.
  • New capability for multiple deletions.
  • Telephone display on Contacts List page when present.
• New User Interface for Standard Web Client User Preferences. Preferences are now split into tab sections, for easier visibility.
• New User Interface for Creating/Editing Contacts. Creating / Editing contacts are now split into tab sections for easier visibility.

Defect Fixes and Improvements V10.02

Web Administration

• Corrected Rename Userid link in User Properties where it did not work with non-Premium IMail Servers.
• Fixed issue with Accept.txt not working correctly when it is empty or cleared.

Services

• The ESMTP SIZE parameter in the Mail From will now have the correct value when a trailer.txt is present.
• IMAP - Corrected the Append command where the InternalDate parameter would hang the IMAP session due to the server not returning a response.
• SMTP on Japanese OS will no longer accept a message with only a double byte space in the "RCPT TO" field.
• IMAP - Fixed issue with Mail.app (Apple) where sent items were not displaying with IMAP due to an unrecognized flag in the APPEND command.

Web Client

• Created a new KB to assist in how to create a Single Sign On for the web client. http://kb.imailserver.com/cgi-bin/imail.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=260
• Fixed .wav file attachments that were not displaying as attachments.
• Fixed issue with web client timing out and user being returned to login screen.
• Corrected issue where certain messages with embedded images (e.g. from eBay) would logout the web client after viewing.
• Corrected "base64" encoded messages that were not displaying correctly in web client.

Web Calendar

• Fixed zero minute appointments created by Outlook not displaying correctly in the Web Calendar.

Help

• Updated Admin Help for Domain Properties > User Login Settings with notes on disabling this feature and tips on handling a suspended account.

Defect Fixes and Improvements for V10.01

Web Administration

• Fixed SMTP Service page turning off the "Require CRAM-MD5" flag whenever the page was saved.
• Fixed User Utilities > Global User Changes where the Encoding option update was not working.

Services

• IMAP - Fixed issue with Mail.app 3.0 (Apple) - Not synchronizing correctly.
• SMTP - Fixed issue for Dictionary Attack Setting > Minutes To Deny Access was not being honored.
• SMTP - Fixed issue with Dictionary Attack Setting > Soft Error Limit not functioning when set to non-zero when Hard Error Limit was set to zero.

Web Client

• Corrected display issues with auto-responder and vacation message when using Japanese encoding.
• Fixed issue with Advanced Search receiving "Callback Error" for large mailboxes.
• Fixed .wav file attachments that were not displaying as attachments.
• Fixed issue with rule not properly decoding HTML when quotes were used in search text of condition.
• Although 'Cp1252' is not a supported encoding option, web client was fixed to alter this encoding to windows-1252 to correctly display messages.

Web Calendar

• Sharing sub-calendar will no longer display twice for shared users.
• Daily display of time has been modified to use 12-hour notation (versus 24-hour notation) for the English users.
• (Premium Only) - Fixed calendar issue where the "alternate WorkgroupShare user" was not being used in the Web Calendar.
• Corrected Safari calendar issue always displaying two scroll bars.
• Corrected Safari calendar displaying appoints at incorrect time when "All Day" appointments existed.

Web Mail Lite

• "Web Messaging Lite" text at the top of the page will now link to the login page.

Install

• Fixed issue for custom path selection of "c:\IMail" installing as "c:\IMail\IMail". Default installations have been changed to "c:\Program Files\Ipswitch\IMail".

Utilities

• wgscvt.exe. Fixed issue where the "aliases.txt" files were not converting when using SQL DB.

Defect Fixes and Improvements for V10

Install Upgrades

Installations that have converted their WorkgroupShare and Personal Contacts from Access to SQL or SQLExpress prior to IMail V10 must be sure that the following registry key exists and is set as follows before upgrading:

Warning: This registry key setting, if missing, during upgrade will reset WorkgroupShare DB back to Access.

Web Administration

• Global User Changes now works correctly for external ODBC User database.
• Full Name, Vacation Message and Information Manager (Auto Responder) are now internationalized and can handle foreign characters. The Web Admin will now correctly display all foreign character sets, for the three User Preference settings in the web client.
• Dictionary Attack settings will now be skipped for users that are using SMTP Auth.
• Fixed issue of Domain Administrator not honoring Default User Mailbox Size settings when adding a user.
• List Administrator page will now display the associated Owner and Administrator for each list, with sort capability for each column.
• Default Host under System Settings will no longer receive "Bad Socket State" in web messaging when the Domain Name(OHN) does not match.
• Dirty IP setting under Premium Filter has been changed to take "No Action" during new installation. Previously setting was using "Take the same action as spam".

Services

• SMTP. Issues of services crashing due to high volume logging has been fixed.
• Queue Manager. Fixed issue on Japanese OS where forwarding to a list would change encoding for the body of the message from UTF-8 to JIS.
• SMTP. Fixed issue where Web Client would not work when SMTP AUTH was disabled.
• SMTP. Fixed issue where a UserID beginning with a hyphen was not being rejected when using IMail User Database.
• IMonitor. IMonitor has been removed to improve IMail performance. IMonitor produced many false positives and caused many other problems. For replacement ideas for IMonitor see the following KB: http://support.ipswitch.com/kb/IM-20071220-JH01.htm

Web Client

• Personal Contact groups will now correctly delete a selected contact from a group.
• Public Contacts created in WorkgroupShare (IMail Premium) can now properly create and edit groups.
• Plain text e-mail will now print in a larger font that is easier to read. Was increased from font size 8 to 10.
• Login page will now clear all session variables when it first loading.
• Fixed issue of Username containing an apostrophe not being able to reply to messages.
• Fixed issue of Japanese named files not displaying correctly.

Product Description

IMail Server is an Internet standards based mail server system for Microsoft Windows 2000 and Microsoft Windows 2003. IMail Server includes powerful antispam and antivirus management tools, a new Web-based administrator and client, and implements a series of programs that run as services including:

• Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) service for sending and receiving mail over the Internet or in an internal TCP/IP network.
• Post Office Protocol, version 3 (POP3) service to allow POP3 clients (such as Microsoft Outlook Client and Qualcomm Eudora) to download mail from the IMail Server.
• Internet Message Access Protocol, version 4 (IMAP4) service to allow IMAP4 clients (such as FireFox and Microsoft Internet Explorer) to access mail on the IMail Server.
• Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) Version 2.1.22 service for publishing user information in an LDAP directory.
• Language support for Web Messaging: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional and Japanese

IMail also provides features such as a List server for creating and managing mailing lists and a mail to pager/beeper feature that lets you set up aliases on the IMail Server that forward mail from a mail client to preconfigured pager or beeper address.

IMail Server Features

• Web Messaging (Web mail client) lets you send and receive mail using a web browser. You can log on to the Web Messaging from a browser on any computer with a supported browser and manage email without installing email client software. When a user creates a mailbox in the Web client, the mailbox is created on the mail server and mail folders and messages reside on the server.
• Web Messaging Lite (Low bandwidth mail client) allows users with low-bandwidth (dial-up) capability to access their mail quicker. To allow this capability, framesets, icons, and certain processes were removed to allow for faster load.
• IMail Web Administration (Server) provides local or remote access to IMail Server administration features via a Web browser. You can administer all email functions, including users, groups, services, shared calendars and contacts, and anti-spam and antivirus settings.
• If WorkgroupShare is implemented in current IMail (Premium) version, Microsoft® Outlook contacts are able to transfer and sync with IMail Web Messaging.

Optional Enhancements

• IMail AntiVirus Premium (available separately)
  IMail AntiVirus Premium is fully integrated with IMail Server and is powered by Symantec ScanEngine Server, a high performance, scalable, reliable solution to protect against viruses.
• Imail AntiVirus (available separately)
  AntiVirus for IMail fully integrates with IMail Server and is powered by state of the art anti-virus technology developed by SOFTWIN BitDefender.
• IMail 10 Server Plus
  Provides standard IMail configuration with Premium Antispam (Commtouch's) filtering.
• IMail 10 Server Premium
  Provides standard IMail configuration with Premium Antispam (Commtouch's) filtering, Instant Messaging and WorkgroupShare.

Installing/Upgrading/Repairs

Registry Checker - Regcheck.exe is run automatically during a repair or upgrade, and can also be run from the command line. Regcheck troubleshoots registry conflicts during upgrades and repairs.

Ipswitch IMail uses InstallShield® Wizard to install the IMail components on your computer. Use the on-screen instructions to select the installation features that set up the mail server to your preferences.

The installation program automatically configures Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 5.0 or later and Microsoft® .NET Framework 2.0 or later. It also sets user permissions automatically; however, if you need to configure permissions manually, the following Default IMail Permissions and Configuration must be set on your mail server to make it fully functional or for administrators who do not want to use the default configuration, you can use the Non-default IMail Permissions and Configuration. If you need to configure IIS manually, see IIS Settings. For using IIS Virtual Directories, see Using IIS Virtual Directories.

Starting Web Admin and Web Client

After installation, you have the option to launch the IMail Web Admin automatically. If you choose not to launch IMail Web Admin automatically, in your browser address box, type the IP address or domain name of the IMail Web Server followed by the path where you installed ICS Web Admin.

For example:

http://mail.domain.com/IAdmin, then press ENTER. The Ipswitch Web Admin login page appears.

-OR-

Click Start > Programs > Ipswitch IMail Server > IMail Server Administration. The Ipswitch Web Admin login page appears.

To launch the Web Client, in your browser address box, type the IP address or domain name of the IMail Web Server followed by the path where you installed ICS Web Client.

For example: http://mail.domain.com/IClient, then press ENTER. The Ipswitch Web Client login page appears.

Web Messaging Notes for Upgraders

The Web Messaging templates have been redesigned and no longer support the Web template infrastructure implemented in previous versions of Web Messaging (included in IMail 8.2 and earlier). When you upgrade to IMail 2006 or later, the previous versions of the Web templates are not functional.

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL version 3) Notes

The private key file is protected using a password specified in SSL Configuration Utility. This password is required for decoding the key file while loading the SSL server. This password is stored in the registry and automatically retrieved during the loading process of SSL Server. The registry path for IMail is usually SOFTWARE\Ipswitch\imail\ssl. The registry path must be correct; otherwise an error message is generated and the files will not be created.

Changing Web Client Default Directory (Redirect)

To set a redirect so Web Messaging users do not have to use \IClient in the URL for Web Messaging:

1. Click Start > Programs > Administrative Tools > Internet Information Services. The IIS console opens.
2. Right-click IClient (usually located under Web Site > Default Web Site).
3. Select Properties. The IClient Properties dialog box opens.
4. In the Execute Permissions list, click Scripts only.
5. Copy the directory path in the Local Path box.
6. Click OK.
7. Right-click Default Web Site.
8. Select Properties. The Default Web Site Properties dialog box opens.
9. Click the Home Directory tab.
10. Paste the directory path you copied from the IClient dialog box Local Path box into the Default Web Site Properties dialog box Local Path box

Downgrading

IMail Server Plus and IMail Server Premium Downgrading

Warning: Downgrading from IMail Server Plus v10.02 or IMail Server Premium v10.02 to v10.01 or lower will cause the Premium Antispam Services to stop working.

Once a user has installed and been licensed with Commtouch Premium services, he/she can no longer be downgraded to a previous version unless the Mail-Filter license has been backed up and saved to a path outside of the Ipswitch folder.

IMail Server Standalone Downgrading

Downgrade the IMail Server back to a previous version of version 10 or earlier installation without uninstalling as follows:

1. Open the Registry Editor and locate the following key:
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{42A05E51-7514-4330-A784-B4C45412F04D}
2. Change the Version value to 2000000 (hex).
3. Launch the installation file and proceed as normal.
4. When asked if you would like to convert your LDAP database, select no.

Note: The IAdmin and IClient virtual directories and web files will still be on the computer.

Important: Mailbox sizes are corrupted after downgrading IMail 2006 or later to an earlier version (IMail 8.x). If you have quotas set up, they will fail. To correct this, delete the .uid and .xml files.

Important: When downgrading IMail 10 Server to a previous IMail version, you need to delete the configuration.xml file from the top-level IMail folder

Uninstalling

1. Open the Add/Remove Programs applet in the Windows Control Panel.
2. Select the IMail or ICS Edition you want to uninstall.

Note:
• Removing IMail Server using the Add/Remove Programs applet does not delete the IMail directory or the subdirectories and files it contains. To remove these, you must delete them manually.
• Everything is deleted in the Windows registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Ipswitch\IMail (but the Ipswitch key is not removed).
• Directories and files created by setup.exe are removed if they have not been modified. For example, if you have not added any users (and root never gets mail), the Users directory is removed. If these directories have been modified (i.e. the root or users accounts have received mail), you must remove them manually.
