Working with Application Profiles

Access the application monitoring configuration interface by selecting SETTINGS > Application Monitoring > Application and Profile Setup. This interface allows you to create new application profiles as well as import profiles from your local machine. Additionally, for existing application profiles, you can also:

Please note, to perform these functions, you must have the Configure Application Profiles user right enabled.

To add a new application profile:

  1. Select SETTINGS > Application Monitoring > Application and Profile Setup from the main menu.
  2. Select the Application Profiles tab.
  3. Click the WUG19.0-Add Monitored Application icon to launch the Application Profile Editor dialog.
  4. Select the Application Detail tab, then configure the following:
    • Name. Enter a name for your new application profile.
    • Description. Enter a more detailed description for the new profile, if desired.
    • Application Type. Use this list to select the most appropriate choice of category for the new profile.
    • Version. Specify a version number for the new profile. Note that this field may be used at your discretion when creating multiple profiles based on the same profile type, importing/exporting profiles, or tracking profile changes internally, for example, however it is not actively used by WhatsUp Gold for application monitoring purposes.
    • Default Action Policy. Use this list to select an action policy to be applied to the application instance.
    • Attributes. Click the Add WUG19.0-Add Application Attribute icon to select one or more attributes to apply to the monitored application, if desired.
  5. Select the Components tab, click the Add WUG19.0-Add Application Attribute icon, then select Component from the list displayed.
  6. Browse for and select a component to add to the application profile, then click Select.
  7. Repeat as needed to build your application profile using multiple components.

    Note: You can specify a test device using the selector at the top of the dialog, select one or more individual components using the checkboxes at left, and then click Test to ensure your profile's components are correctly configured and functioning properly.

  8. Click Save.
