Adding and editing a Ping interarrival jitter monitor
The Ping Interarrival Jitter monitors for variances in results returned from multiple pings to a specified device.
To add a new Ping Interarrival Jitter active monitor:
- From the WhatsUp Gold web interface, go to . The Monitor Library dialog appears.
- Click the tab. The Active Monitor list appears.
- Click . The Select Active Monitor Type dialog appears.
- Select , then click . The Add Ping Interarrival Jitter Monitor dialog appears.
- Enter or select the appropriate information:
- . Enter a unique name for the active monitor. This name displays in the Active Monitor Library.
- . Enter additional information about the monitor. This description displays next to the monitor in the Active Monitor Library.
- . Enter the hostname or IP address of the target device to monitor.
: You can enter the %Device.Address
or %Device.HostName
percent variable to configure the monitor to ping the device to which the monitor is assigned.
- Configure the following settings:
- . Specify the maximum length of time in seconds to wait for the ping reply message after sending the ping (ICMP echo).
- . Enter the number of times WhatsUp Gold attempts to send the ping (ICMP echo) messages.
- . Enter the number of routing nodes that can forward the ping data before it is discarded.
- . Enter the length in bytes of data to be sent in the ping message and returned in the ping reply message.
- Specify the conditions by which the monitor should report the host as Down:
- . Enter the amount of time the jitter value must exceed for WhatsUp Gold to report the device to which the monitor is assigned as Down.
- . Enter the amount of time the interarrival jitter value must exceed for WhatsUp Gold to report the device to which the monitor is assigned as Down.
- . Enable this option to prevent the monitor reporting the device as Down in the event of a connection error.
