Cleaning Up Old Files and Empty Subfolders

You can delete old files or empty sub-folders automatically after a specified number of days. To do so, you can configure cleanup settings at either the folder level or the host level.

To configure cleanup settings at the folder level:

1. WS_FTP Server Manager, open a folder.
2. Under Automated Cleanup, select one of the following options:
   • Use this host's default cleanup settings: If you select this option, the folder will inherit the host's default settings. See Creating Hosts.
   • Automatically delete files older than ___ days(s): Enter the appropriate number of days after which you want files in this folder to be deleted.
   • Automatically delete empty subfolders older than ___ day(s): Enter the appropriate number of days after which you want empty subfolders in this folder to be deleted.

     Note: If you select the first option, the host's default cleanup settings will override all other cleanup settings.

To configure cleanup settings at the host level:

1. From the top menu, select Server > Hosts. The Hosts page opens.
2. Select a host. The Host Details page opens.
3. Under Folder Settings, check one or both of the following options:
   • Default file cleanup settings: Automatically delete files older than ___ days(s): Enter the appropriate number of days after which you want files on this host to be deleted.
   • Default empty subfolder cleanup settings: Automatically delete empty subfolders older than ___ day(s): Enter the appropriate number of days after which you want empty subfolders on this host to be deleted.

   By default, folders will use these host-level default values unless they are overridden at the folder level. These host-level settings also apply to virtual folders and their descendants, but only if the virtual folder points to a location outside of the host's top folder, to avoid having multiple cleanup profiles affect a single folder. The cleanup process will never delete virtual folders themselves, only physical folders.
