Web Administrator
Warning For Upgrading Customers: It is highly recommended to run the upgrade and mailbox conversion during non-peak hours when e-mail activity is low, as the "convert.exe"
utility may be a very lengthy process. The number of users and the size of their mailboxes will determine the amount of time needed.
In-house testing has determined that the amount of time averaged 30 minutes / 50GB of e-mail. This time will vary by server size and disk performance.
A checkbox option to run the "convert.exe"
utility will appear at the end of a successful upgrade. Checking this option to run the "convert.exe" will immediately iterate through all users within the IMail Server and rewrite all the UID and XML files for all mailboxes. Again, it is not recommended to run this utility during high volume user usage, as this may be a very lengthy process and could seriously degrade system performance.
Tip: If the conversion option is not selected at the time of the upgrade. Users opening their mail clients for the first time after upgrade will initiate the conversion for the mailbox being accessed. Depending on the size of the mailbox, this could take more time than usual.

Caution: Although a mailbox can be much larger than previously allowed, keep in mind that the performance of a larger mailbox quickly diminishes as the size grows. Mailbox synchronization for IMAP or POP3 (with a copy remaining on the server) requires large amounts of time, CPU, and I/O.
Important for Upgraders: A modification has been made to the ODBCUser.dll. If a custom ODBCUser.dll is currently in place, an updated version will be necessary before upgrading. Please see External Database Changes.
Important: After upgrading go to System > System Trailer in the Web or Console Administration to verify your "trailer.txt"
converted correctly.
Foreign OS Upgrades: Conversion of trailers that contain special encoding may not be handled correctly. Find the backup "trailer.old"
and correct as necessary.
Note for Upgrades: For Administrators with a "Trailer.txt"
in place, the install will locate the registry key "HKLM/SOFTWARE/Ipswitch/IMail/Global/EnableTrailerHTML"
and follow these steps:

"AVUpdate.exe"
is no longer required to update your virus definitions with IMail Server v11.01 or later. The program is still delivered with the installation to allow all older versions of IMail Server to continue to update using the old method.Important for BitDefender® Upgraders. New automated features for virus definition updates will be enabled. Be aware that any manual schedule that has been previously setup will continue. It is up to the IMail Administrator to disable any manual schedules that were previously set.

IMail Mobile Synchronization
Users now have the capability to synchronize their mobile devices with their web client information to include e-mail, contacts and calendar events. Users can maintain their contacts and calendar appointments from either their computer or mobile device, and remain synchronized.
Outlook synchronization is also capable, but requires installing the WorkgroupShare Client. This enables synchronizing e-mail, contacts, calendars, notes, and tasks between their web client, Outlook and their mobile devices.
Default Mobile Synchronization Settings
The new Console Administrator has the bulk edit user capability, and can turn on this feature by going to the Domain > User List page, select all users and checking the Enable Mobile Synchronization.
Warning: It is recommended that Mobile Synchronization is not turned on for all users simultaneously, as the initial mobile download will put a high stress on your IMail system. See System Requirements for mobile user recommendations.

Product Update
To allow integration for all users to receive the greatest benefit for mobile synchronization, Ipswitch has modified the Product Offerings. WorkgroupShare previously only offered with IMail Premium has the component necessary to allow mobile synchronization with Outlook to include e-mail, contacts, calendars, tasks and notes. WorkgroupShare and Ipswitch Instant Messaging has been integrated into IMail Server Plus and IMail Server, obsoleting IMail Plus, and leaving IMail Server and IMail Premium. See new Table of IMail Product Features.
New IP Reputation by Commtouch (IMail Server Premium)
Ipswitch has integrated Commtouch's GlobalView™ Mail Reputation services into IMail Server Premium v11. By default upon installation the new IMailCommtouchIpRep service will be enabled (a wrapper for Commtouch's ctIPd™ daemon) and set to only logging. This default will need to be updated by your System Administrator to enable the full capability of Commtouch's IP Reputation daemon.
The Commtouch GlobalView Mail Reputation daemon (ctIPd™) is an embedded reputation engine with a small footprint. It is responsible for maintaining communication with the Commtouch Datacenter. ctIPd™ delivers reputation data to messaging, security and networking devices, providing an added layer of protection while saving valuable resources by enabling the messaging network to analyze and process requests before message reach the network. These querying devices post queries to ctIPd™ over HTTP, UDP, or RBL/RBL+ protocol requesting reputation data on source IP addresses attempting to establish SMTP sessions for sending messages to recipients.

IMail Console Administrator
Back by popular demand, the IMail Console Administration application has been rewritten with full functionality for handling all System Administration functions.
Note: WorkgroupShare (Collaboration) and Instant Messaging have been omitted, as separate Console applications already exist for both applications. Look for them at Start > Programs > Ipswitch IMail Server.
The IMail Console Administrator has the following new functionality:
New Web Administrator
The Web Administrator originally written using classic ASP has been rewritten to use ASP.Net 2.0 to provide better performance.
Note: Instant Messaging has been omitted from the Web Administration application, as a separate Console application is available. Look for it at Start > Programs > Ipswitch IMail Server > Instant Messaging Server

Registry Checker - Regcheck.exe is run automatically during a repair or upgrade, and can also be run from the command line. Regcheck troubleshoots registry conflicts during upgrades and repairs.
Ipswitch IMail uses InstallShield® Wizard to install the IMail components on your computer. Use the on-screen instructions to select the installation features that set up the mail server to your preferences.
The installation program automatically configures Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 5.0 or later and Microsoft® .NET Framework 2.0 or later. It also sets user permissions automatically; however, if you need to configure permissions manually, the following Default IMail Permissions and Configuration must be set on your mail server to make it fully functional or for administrators who do not want to use the default configuration, you can use the Non-default IMail Permissions and Configuration. If you need to configure IIS manually, see IIS Settings. For using IIS Virtual Directories, see Using IIS Virtual Directories.
Tip: Before installing on Microsoft Windows 2008 Server, be sure IIS 7 has "Metabase Compatability" enabled. See also Installing IMail Server on Microsoft® Windows 2008.
Starting Web Admin and Web Client
After installation, you have the option to launch the IMail Web Admin automatically. If you choose not to launch IMail Web Admin automatically, in your browser address box, type the IP address or domain name of the IMail Web Server followed by the path where you installed the Web Admin.
For example:
http://mail.domain.com/IAdmin, then press ENTER. The Ipswitch Web Admin login page appears.

Click Start > Programs > Ipswitch IMail Server > IMail Server Administration. The Ipswitch Web Admin login page appears.
To launch the Web Client, in your browser address box, type the IP address or domain name of the IMail Web Server followed by the path where you installed Web Client.
For example: http://mail.domain.com/IClient, then press ENTER. The Ipswitch Web Client login page appears.
Web Messaging Notes for Upgraders
The Web Messaging templates have been redesigned and no longer support the Web template infrastructure implemented in previous versions of Web Messaging (included in IMail 8.2 and earlier). When you upgrade to IMail 2006 and later, the previous versions of the Web templates are not functional.
Note: Port 8383 is no longer the default port for Web Messaging, as IIS by default uses port 80.
Secure Sockets Layer (SSL version 3) Notes
The private key file is protected using a password specified in SSL Configuration Utility. This password is required for decoding the key file while loading the SSL server. This password is stored in the registry and automatically retrieved during the loading process of SSL Server. The registry path for IMail is usually SOFTWARE\Ipswitch\imail\ssl. The registry path must be correct; otherwise an error message is generated and the files will not be created.
To set a redirect so Web Messaging users do not have to use \IClient in the URL for Web Messaging:
Customers using External user databases will have to manually reverse the Maximum Mailbox Size column type back to "integer"
.
Warning: Any updates made to Maximum Mailbox Size that exceed the 2GB mailbox size will need to be corrected to their original values to avoid truncation.
Warning: Downgrading from IMail Server Premium v11 or later to v10.01 or earlier will cause the Premium Antispam Services to stop working.

Once a user has installed and been licensed with Commtouch Premium services, he/she can no longer be downgraded to a previous version unless the Mail-Filter license has been backed up and saved to a path outside of the Ipswitch folder.
Important: Downgrading from IMail Server v11 or later to IMail Server v10.02 or earlier will remove Ipswitch Instant Messaging and WorkgroupShare.
To downgrade the IMail Server back to a previous version without uninstalling:
Note: The IAdmin and IClient virtual directories and web files will still be on the computer.
Important: Mailbox sizes are corrupted after downgrading IMail 11 or later to an earlier version (IMail 8.x). If you have quotas set up, they will fail. To correct this, delete the .uid and .xml files.
Important: When downgrading IMail 11 Server or later to a previous IMail version, you need to delete the configuration.xml file from the top-level IMail folder
Note:
• Removing IMail Server using the Add/Remove Programs applet does not delete the IMail directory or the subdirectories and files it contains. To remove these, you must delete them manually.
• Everything is deleted in the Windows registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Ipswitch\IMail (but the Ipswitch key is not removed).
• Directories and files created by setup.exe are removed if they have not been modified. For example, if you have not added any users (and root never gets mail), the Users directory is removed. If these directories have been modified (i.e. the root or users accounts have received mail), you must remove them manually.
